Every day, in nearly 100 countries around the world, millions of people depend on Daktronics scoring and display systems for information and entertainment. Our displays provide vital travel information in airports and train stations and along highways. They advertise the price of gas, store specials, and more as you make your daily commute. They also enhance spectators' experiences at sporting events of all kinds, from Little League to the major leagues.

Position located in Brookings, South Dakota. Candidates must be enrolled and registered as a fulltime student. Preferred candidate should be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and at least 20 hours per week during the summer.

The engineering lab student will work in our testing laboratory which provides a diverse array of testing services for all areas of the company. Some of the services include exposing electronics and mechanical parts to an array of stresses, including heat, moisture, static, corrosion, vibration and then understanding the side-effects. In other words, we will challenge you to demonstrate your full potential.As a student you will be exposed to:

  • Communicating professionally via email/IM/telephone

  • Working in Excel and SharePoint

  • Prioritizing your work

  • Problem solving

  • Following procedures and making recommendations for improvements

  • Managing small experiments

  • Working with a diverse array of product designs

  • Measurements & Instrumentation

  • Hands-on failure analysis

  • Communicating laboratory results

  • Interaction with experienced engineers in multiple fields

Qualifications

Academic Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will be a fulltime student currently enrolled in accredited Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering or other related degrees in their sophmore, junior or senior year of school.

  • Only strong academic performers will be considered.

  • Must maintain an acceptable GPA.

  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position.

Other Requirements

  • Good oral and written communication skills (particularly with graphing software), good organizational skills, self-motivation.

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

  • Detail-oriented with desire for quality performance.

  • Physical dexterity, good vision, capable of meeting Daktronics' lifting requirements (45 pounds or more).

Video Products consists of displays comprised of a large number of pixels capable of creating various levels of graphics animation text and controllers which manage the operating of the display. Within this product group, Daktronics supplies displays that are built on LED and reflective technologies forming pixels which create the images. This student position will assist with creating/reviewing packets reviewing LED inventory and assisting with production issues. The Program Management group is primarily responsible for assisting the product development group and coordinating development activities to insure we meet our deadlines. They work daily with the manufacturing purchasing materials planning and scheduling groups. Some duties that the program management student would assist with would include: * Work with manufacturing scheduling to get prototypes and pre-production builds scheduled for the newly designed components including processing material requisitions. * Work with purchasing to insure necessary parts are ordered and will be here on time. Process purchase requests from design engineers. * Work with the design engineers to get the bill of materials for the new assemblies and enter those details into spreadsheets to share with the materials groups to insure parts are available when production starts. * Create packets in Glovia based off the information given to you from the design engineers. * Update Microsoft project schedules based on dates determined by the lead component designers. * Complete paperwork to get new part numbers created in Glovia including obtaining RoHs, certificates, quotes, and item qualification forms from vendors. * Request material from inventory or outside vendors and insure that material is delivered to the design engineering group in a timely manner. * Create reports in Excel to illustrate forecast needs for new product. * Assist with implementing new product by verifying what old product is on hand what projects can use that material and when we could start building the new product. * Assist Development teams with creation and maintenance of SharePoint sites including but not limited to demo inventory, research and development inventory, team task scheduling, and team pipeline. Qualifications Academic Requirements – * The ideal candidate will be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business Economics, or related major with technical interests in Daktronics related product. * The ideal candidate will be in their sophomore, junior or senior year of school. * Only strong performers in undergraduate coursework will be considered. * Must maintain an acceptable GPA. * Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position. Other Requirements – * Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
