Position Title: Engineering Intern

Please note: This position is for the Summer 2020 Semester

For over 50 years, SCI's Defense & Aerospace Division has been a leading provider of defense and aerospace electronics design and manufacturing services. From tactical communications systems to airborne communications and information processing, we deliver high-reliability solutions that keep our first responders and war-fighters connected and protected in the field.

We are currently recruiting highly qualified candidates, whose background and career goals meet our needs, for the following position in our Huntsville, AL facility. Please note that due to our Department of Defense contract requirements, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.

Based in Huntsville, AL, SCI Technology's Advanced Technology Group, with a fast-paced start-up atmosphere plus the stability and resources of a Fortune-500 company, is seeking highly motivated Co-Op and intern candidates in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related fields to join our team and shape future products. Working with technology partners, we rapidly develop new products for a wide range of defense, aerospace, and commercial markets. Recent programs have included Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS, "drones"), commercial nuclear power plant safety systems, ultrafast laser monitoring systems, torpedoes, and high performance electric machines.

The successful candidates will be involved in a wide range of the product lifecycle, including developing and testing leading edge airborne and/or subsea systems not yet seen by the public. Depending on the individual's background and interests, work will involve computer-based design and modeling, rapid prototyping of new designs with our in-house additive and subtractive fabrication capabilities and/or state of the art electronics manufacturing center, and testing of new designs of electronics and/or mechanics both in our development labs and in-flight.

VIEW JOBS 4/2/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-07-01T00:00 PRIMARY FUNCTION This position participates in Calista's 10-week Summer Internship Program from May 21, 2020 - July 31, 2020. The Calista Corporation Internship program is only open to Calista Shareholders and Descendants who are currently enrolled in college or a vocational training program. The Engineer Co-Op shall be analytical, creative and will work in a highly collaborative environment. They are problem-solvers who are quantitatively capable and have a skillset for generating appropriate product documentation for conceptual, modifications of existing and final design products ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Work collaboratively and professionally with other associates and subcontractor engineering firms in cross functional teams * Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing engineering solutions in a timely fashion * Participate in Computer Aided Design (CAD) product design * Review product information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy * Prepare reports and presentations * Participate in continuous improvement * Resolve technical issues * Participate in reviews and analyze data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. * Follow defined development processes * Evaluate product data and designs from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles and regulatory requirements * Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal and scanner, constant use of sight abilities while scanning documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines * Individual job duties may vary SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks. Job Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: * Technical skills and knowledge of engineering drawings * SolidWorks 2D/3D tool usage background preferred * Develop solutions to issues in the field of military rotary wing, fixed wing aircraft, and military land vehicles * Participate in planeside trouble shooting and issue resolution activities * Develop CAD technical data packages consisting of 2D drawings, 3D models, and bills of materials using SolidWorks and AutoCAD * Working with people * Ability to meet deadlines QUALIFICATIONS: * Currently enrolled to obtain an Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university * Have completed 45 hours of college courses * Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance * Ability to pass a drug and background screening Yulista offers an excellent compensation and benefits package.
