Overview of our Capital Development Program
The SANDAG Engineering and Construction teams are responsible for developing plans and implementing various capital improvement initiatives throughout the region with a focus on transit related projects and enhancements. The intern selected for this position will have an opportunity to work in these areas while gaining hands on field work in support of these projects.
With the guidance and mentoring of senior staff, this position will provide a "hands-on" learning experience in capital project management. Examples of intern responsibilities include:
Provide assistance to resident engineers with planning, scheduling, reviewing, and monitoring multiple construction efforts.
Contribute to the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, change orders, and other related documents.
Assist in the preparation of designs and drawings for small facility capital projects.
Assist with data entry and maintaining comprehensive project databases, tracking logs, and documentation.
Assist with the preparation of progress reports, other special reports, and general correspondence.
Provide support to the Engineering and Construction team with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Graduate or final-year undergraduate coursework in civil engineering, construction engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge of current issues and trends related to design and construction of public capital projects.
Demonstrated experience performing a range of administrative support services; ability to maintain accurate records.
Experience computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate with various audiences using exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks typical of an entry-level research position.
Hours, Pay, and Perks
Interns are paid $13.50 per hour, are eligible to receive pro-rated holiday pay, paid sick leave, and a regional transit pass. This internship is offered as a one-year position, working approximately 20 to 25 hours per week. The work is primarily performed during normal business hours and, from time to time, may involve evenings and weekends; a specific schedule will be worked out between the intern and manager. This position will be based at the SANDAG Construction Office in Mission Valley.
