We are recruiting for an Engineering Co-op who will be based at our Amesbury, MA, USA location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Basic product development tasks such as: experiment planning, coordination & implementation, evaluating data to guide future development efforts, and document procedures in work instructions.

  • Design of polymer resins to meet customer specifications utilizing structure-property relationships.

  • Identify equipment for process scale-up under the direction of a more senior engineer.

  • Formulating metallic filled thermoset and thermoplastic elastomers to meet mechanical, electrical, and environmental customer specifications.

  • Assist in developing manufacturing techniques, procedures, and processing conditions to produce a wide range of materials such as thermoplastic and thermoset elastomers, foam, honeycomb, composite materials, etc.

  • Data acquisition and analysis on a variety of instruments including but not limited to DSC, FTIR, Light scattering particle size analysis, tensile testing, etc.

  • Safety analysis and continuous improvement projects.

By the end of the co-op cycle the selected candidate will:

  • Gain confidence working in a laboratory setting

  • Understand the general process of product scale-up

  • Understand the life cycle of new product development

  • Gain confidence planning and executing experiments with a fast deadline with the support of a diverse team

Qualifications:

  • Sophomore or junior level in a B.S. degree program or graduate in a M.S degree program from an accredited college or university in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other applicable technical field.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Current computer literacy including Microsoft Office Products.

  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs preferred.
