The Dublin San Ramon Services District is seeking applications for an Engineering Intern. The ideal candidate will be a college graduate student (or a student in their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies) pursuing a degree in civil/environmental engineering.

The position will be full-time (between 32-40 hours per week) and occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The assignment is scheduled to begin as soon as possible and is scheduled to end no later than September 30, 2024, and not to exceed 1,000 hours worked. However, assignments may end at any time at the discretion of the District.

Essential Functions

The engineering intern will perform a variety of project duties in support of the District's planning, design, and construction management teams, including:

  • Review construction drawings and extract key information to facilitate archival and retrieval of drawings.

  • Calculate material quantities based on construction drawings and research mechanical equipment and construction costs.

  • Assist staff on development project acceptances by review of easements and record drawings.

  • Review and organize approved plans and record drawings into the electronic management system.

  • Identify and review Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional sites for non-functional turf regulatory compliance.

  • Assist with water/recycled distribution system operations and maintenance engineering support tasks.

  • Determine and verify field conditions.

  • Perform engineering calculations and analyze data.

  • Perform budgeting and cost estimating.

  • Research equipment and construction methods.

  • Coordinate with interdepartmental and external stakeholders.

  • Report writing, literature review, and other research.

Training and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a college student pursuing a degree in civil or environmental engineering in good standing or have graduated in the last six (6) months and are seeking to gain practical work experience.

  • Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license.

  • May not be an active CalPERS member.

Candidates must have working knowledge of engineering principles as well as the ability to interpret construction drawings, analyze a variety of data using Microsoft Excel, write reports, and communicate clearly.

Other Recruitment Standards

Due to CalPERS regulations regarding temporary employment, no active CalPERS members will be considered for this position.

Any candidate select for this internship shall be required to successfully complete a background check and register with the District's contracted temporary staffing agency, Barrett Business Services, Inc. (BBSI).
