The Northrop Grumman Military and Civil Space Engineering and Manufacturing organization has an opportunity for a Manager 2 Pathways Functional Manager. Pathways is a department of entry level employees who are provided rotational opportunities across various programs at the Azusa campus. This position leads functional management of three sections totaling approximately 40 engineers of diverse disciplines. This position will also have an expanded responsibility of serving as the Azusa point of contact with University Relations and Recruiting to support college hiring activities. The candidate will be required to integrate input from all internal engineering and manufacturing departments and program leadership to develop rotational assignments and opportunities for the Pathways team members.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or due to business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM Field with 5 years of experience in Space and/or Defense industry; OR Master's Degree in a STEM field with 3 years of experience in Space and/or Defense industry

  • 5 or more years of engineering experience in the payload design of electro-optical and Infrared (EO/IR) payload systems

  • 5 or more years of technical payload design, data analysis, products, or test experience in Systems, Hardware, Software, or Test Engineering

  • Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a STEM field

  • Knowledge of and experience with the Military and Civil Space business area and Azusa programs

  • Proven ability to lead and influence a high performance team

  • Proven ability to inspire and guide junior engineers as well as partner with program leads for rotational assignments

  • Proven effective communication skills across all levels of the organization

  • 10 years of related space and defense industry experience

  • 5 or more years of functional leadership (including college recruiting, active career development, and performance evaluation and guidance)

  • Active & Current DoD secret Clearance

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Structural & Dynamics Engineering Manager 2 to support our hardware engineering department in Azusa, CA. This position is responsible for both functional management and technical supervision of the Structures & Dynamics Engineering Department, reporting to the Hardware Engineering Directorate. This is a hybrid role balancing program technical demands and people management (10-16 highly capable technical professionals). Functional responsibilities include: ensuring the people, processes, and tools are in place to meet program cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements. The manager is responsible for staffing decisions, training, employee development, performance evaluation, compensation decisions, employee career development, and corrective or disciplinary actions when required. Technical responsibilities include: technical oversight of the structural & dynamics engineering of space qualified hardware and systems. Areas of aptitude include: subsystem integration, durability and damage tolerance, methods of model validation, primary and secondary structure load paths and design margins, and space certification. The manager will be accountable to program office and IPT leadership for schedule, budget, and technical performance of programmatic engineering tasks. The manager will also be responsible for oversight of technical reviews, analysis and test reports, special projects, trade studies, sustaining activities, MRB/FRB, and major customer reviews. The functional manager also has performance appraisal responsibilities to guide employee development, improve employee well-being, and add value to the organization. As first line management for many employees, the department manager will enhance and encourage employee development with career advice and training as well as notifying employees when suitable career advancement positions are available. The ideal candidate should have strong communications skills and the ability to connect to direct reports and internal customers on multiple levels. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field & 5 years of combined experience in functional/project/team leadership, mechanical/structures/dynamics engineering, design, analysis, and testing. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance or higher. U.S. Citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering with an emphasis in space flight equipment and/or vehicle structures. * A working knowledge of CAD and FEA applications (CREO, Nastran) * 10 years of work experience in the area of spacecraft bus or payload loads, structural dynamics analysis and launch environment * Advanced knowledge of detailed space-flight loads, transportation loads, fatigue spectra, flight and ground testing * Participation in multiple design and analysis cycles in spacecraft development programs * Ability to generate PDR and CDR analysis data package and present to NASA/Air Force customers * A strong understanding of load paths, free-body loads, and initial sizing approaches for metals and composites. * Ability to master the use of various analysis tools and to teach others how to properly and efficiently use them. * Proven track record in developing solutions to difficult problems that are rigorous, innovative, affordable, and consistent with program objectives. * Able to evaluate engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. * Demonstrated leadership experience in a product development environment * Active & Current DoD secret clearance Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
