Summary


This position is located within Lincoln National Forest. Incumbent operates and maintains 3 or more pieces of engineering heavy equipment. Up to but not exceeding twenty percent (20%) this position as equipment operator is required to participate in firefighting activities such as operating equipment or working in fire camp on a fire assignment.

Responsibilities


Operates dozers

, backhoes, motor graders, loaders, excavators and other heavy gasoline or diesel powered wheeled or crawler type engineering and construction equipment. Duties will include the excavation, backfilling, and grading of construction materials to specifications as required on such projects as roads, ditches, campgrounds, minor and major culverts and other construction projects.

Work will be performed in a variety of settings including mountains with steep, rocky terrain. Operates specialized equipment used in road construction and maintenance and operates a dump truck and semi-truck with trailer with maximum GCVWR of 80,000 lbs. and may reach up to 120,000 lbs. to haul specialized equipment. Assures agency safety rules and policies are complied with, limits of safe equipment operation are not exceeded and all tools are properly used. Other duties may include placement of concrete low water crossings, construction of boat ramps, erecting fences, rough carpentry and other miscellaneous construction work.

Possess the ability to read blueprints, use a hand level and to understand, and read construction grading stakes.

Performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments on automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment. Reports major mechanical repairs to supervisor. Services equipment, makes equipment inspections, and maintains proper records.

Fire Assignment Equipment Operator

  • Up to but not exceeding twenty percent (20%) of the time, this position as equipment operator is required to obtain a PMS 310-3, Incident Qualification Card for firefighting activities such as operating equipment on a fire assignment. The individual will be required to provide necessary support as an equipment operator on fire assignments and occasional extended assignments in fire suppression activities or be part of the fuel reduction program on the Forest.

    The individual will be required to meet all training and qualifications for a Dozer Operator (DZOP - FSFAQG), as well as pass physical fitness standards for moderate level as required by the Forest Service. The individual will be required to obtain training, experience and physical fitness requirements for fire qualifications.

This position requires the selectee to possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and Class A (CDL) with tanker endorsment therefore, is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use.

Final appointment is conditional on a negative drug test. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.

WORK CAPACITY TEST (WCT) for Wildland Firefighters: This position participates in wildland firefighting activities.

Based on the type of work performed, TAKING and PASSING the WCT at the MODERATE level is a "condition of employment." The Moderate fitness (Field) test requires completing a two (2) mile hike within thirty (30) minutes, while carrying a twenty-five (25) pound pack. You are strongly encouraged to consult with your physician and begin training immediately if applying for this position. This announcement constitutes the required 30 days advanced notice for testing requirements.

Guidance and oversight of the position will be provided by the TGTM Flight Chief. The Holloman High Speed Test Track (846TS) is the world premier rocket sled test facility. The 846TS works with customers to design, develop and execute rocket sled tests specifically designed to simulate selected portions of the flight environment in support of the development of weapon systems and other flight hardware. The Applied Mechanics Flight (TGTM) at the 846TS is responsible for the design of Rocket Sled Tests to meet customer requirements, design and structural analysis of rocket sleds and rocket sled components, and design and analysis of rocket sled test support hardware and targets. The TGTM Flight is also responsible for all Electrical Engineering design, analysis, fabrication and test conduct. Test conduct consists of electrical and avionics systems support to include, setup, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems and capabilities for the 846 TS. In addition, TGTM supports in-house capability development and facility maintenance. This position is located at Holloman, AFB, NM. Essential Functions The Engineering Technician will: * Provide electronic technical support to TGTM through the following: * Field, operate and troubleshoote 846 TS McQ system * Field, operate and troubleshoot sled test network control system * Field, operate and troubleshoot Weibel radar velocity system * Track and maintain AF compliance program * Maintenance and troubleshoot 846 TS avionics/mission hardware real-time * Support TGTM as needs arise during mission set-up, conduct and teardown Education and Experience Qualification * Requires a Bachelors degree and 3 to 10 years of experience.
