Summary


These positions are located within a National Forest. The position is established on a Forest unit in support of road systems and other program areas. Incumbent operates and maintains engineering equipment.

Responsibilities


Incumbent operates one or more types of heavy equipment

, such as graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Work is generally done on flat or rolling terrain with simple terrain problems, such as forest roads and compounds.

Incumbent maintains ditches, road shoulders, and beds and fire lines and clears brush, tree stumps and rocks.

Reviews the work to be performed and adjusts equipment attachments for a set level, angle, or depth, according to the type of equipment used.

Ensures equipment is maintained in good working condition.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FINGERPRINT CHECK:Selection and retention in this position is contingent on a successfully adjudicated FBI National Criminal History Check (fingerprint check) and a background investigation.

PLEASE NOTE: This vacancy is being used to fill positions for FY2019 Temporary Employment Hiring season.

This position is temporary, has a Not-to-Exceed date and will be filled for up to 6 months or as a not to exceed (NTE) 1 year, however an extension of the appointment may be possible without further competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or lack of funds.

The number and location of positions to be filled will be dependent upon individual unit needs.

  • If claiming 10-point veteran's preference you must provide the DD214 or certification requirements (see above bullet), plus the proof of entitlement of this preference as listed on the SF-15 Application for 10-point Veterans' Preference. The SF-15 should be included but is not required. Failure to submit these documents could result in the determination that there is insufficient documentation to support your claim for 10-point preference.

  • Surplus or displaced employees eligible for CTAP, RPL, or ICTAP priority must provide: proof of eligibility (RIF separation notice, notice of proposed removal for declining a transfer of function or directed reassignment to another commuting area, notice of disability annuity termination), SF-50 documenting separation (as applicable), and your most recent SF-50 noting position, grade level, and duty location with your application per 5 CFR 330.
