We pursue our mission through a nationwide network of partners involved in a cutting-edge civic health initiative, our cross-sector conferences and engagement with a broad spectrum of individuals and organizations interested in utilizing civic engagement principles and practices to enhance their work.  Connecting people for the purpose of strengthening civic life is our goal. <br />  <br /> NCoC believes everyone has the power to make a difference in how their community and country thrive.  Congress chartered NCoC in 1953 to incubate, evaluate, and increase active citizenship. By convening and partnering with nonprofit, foundation, government, and corporate decision-makers on the national, state, and community level, NCoC explores, discovers, and shares what matters most in shaping modern civic engagement.<br />  <br /> NCoC’s annual budget is approximately $1.2 million, funded primarily through its endowment assets. The organization has a staff of four full-time employees, in addition to a network of consultants and partners.<br />  <br /> <strong>POSITION SUMMARY</strong><br /> The Director of Communications (Director) is a new position designed to help elevate and amplify the mission of NCoC with current stakeholders and with new audiences across the country.  The Director will design and implement a communications plan that enables NCoC to share research, enfranchise new thought partners, and reach individuals who want to contribute to civic health at the local, state, and federal level.  The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial communications professional with a record of success who thinks big and who thrives with a small team in an entrepreneurial environment.  The Director reports to and serves as a thought partner to the Chief Executive Officer and will innovate new ways of sharing the mission of NCoC with a broader audience.  This position is based in Washington, DC.<br />  <br /> <strong>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES</strong> <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Design and implement a strategic communications plan that increases awareness of NCoC and engages new partners, leaders, and the general public</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Collaborate with NCoC team and partners to elevate the discourse around defining what it means to be an American citizen today amidst the changing notion of political participation and civic engagement</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Drive innovation in traditional and new communication channels to help amplify ideas, messages, research, and convenings</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Collaborate with staff and consultants to promote a compelling brand platform that resonates with diverse audiences</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with communications professionals in partner organizations, the media, and among other communities</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Develop and implement a media engagement strategy and drive digital and editorial content</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Innovate around how to optimize communications, marketing, and branding of an annual hallmark national conference</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Work with key NCoC partners to develop stories to share with a broader audience</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Develop and maintain a compelling and engaging website and organizational collateral</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Identify creative opportunities for NCoC leadership to be represented in media outlets and positioned as experts in the field at local and national events</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Maintain current knowledge of relevant information and news in the shared NCoC community</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Develop content for the web site, collateral, partner communications, storytelling, blogs, etc.</li> </ul> <div style="padding: 0; margin: 0;"> </div> <strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong> <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Bachelor’s Degree required and a minimum of 10 years of experience working in the communications field</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Passion for the mission of NCoC</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">A record of success designing, implementing, and evaluating a strategic communications plan including media, events, and collateral</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">The ability to distill complex messages around democracy and civic participation and deliver them to a variety of audiences</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Collaborative, inclusive style and the ability to work closely with a small team</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">A “doer” with a willingness to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of activities ranging from the internal day-to-day operations to the highly visionary</li> </ul> <br />   Leaderfit Washington DC
