The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity as a Engineering Construction Safety Specialist in Midland, MI. This position is a challenging, rewarding and highly visible role responsible for a portfolio of expense and capital projects over the life cycle of capital projects. Responsibilities are across various Michigan Operations businesses in Northern North America.
The selected candidate will partner with Construction Managers, Operations, Engineering and Maintenance Leadership, as well as contract partners to deliver safe and effective construction projects in the field.
The Construction Safety Specialist will assist in developing safety plans for capital construction projects, reviewing contractor project safety plans and assist on Life Critical Standard interpretation as it relates to capital construction projects. In addition, this role will perform weekly safety audits on programs and processes while tracking the number of project observations and comments. It will also perform safety observation/interventions on TES managed construction projects, provide positive feedback, and communicate the injury free vision daily.
Champion the use of construction safety best practices and drive to a zero-incident safety culture on contracts.
Work with Construction Managers to develop safety plans for capital construction projects.
Assist the Construction Manager with reviewing contractor project safety plans.
Assist the Construction Manager on Life Critical Standard interpretation as it relates to capital construction projects.
Develop relationships with plant EH&S Technicians where project work is occurring.
Perform safety audits on programs and processes weekly. Perform safety observation/interventions on TES managed construction projects, provide positive feedback, and communicate the injury free vision daily. Track number of project observations and comments.
Attend all RCI's that meet the trigger criteria for TES managed capital projects.
Audit housekeeping on construction project site walks.
Participate in pre-job safety meetings.
Participate and facilitate weekly safety tailgates.
Participate in the TES BBP program.
Lead and attend contractor tailgate meetings and audit for content.
Lead and attend Project Day Zero's
Monitor contractor safety rep to craftsman ratio.
Implement the ES Construction Safety Best Practices.
Participate in Contractor Owner Safety Team (COST).

Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
