Pay Schedule I, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Engineering & Construction, Structures Design Division.

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, performs advanced subprofessional engineering, drafting, design, simulation, and computational work.

  • Performs drafting, computational, and designs work in the preparation of plans and specifications for County projects.
  • Prepares designs for water, sewerage, and storm drainage facilities, public buildings and other public works projects.
  • Interprets construction plans and deeds.
  • Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans, and projects.
  • Plots property outlines from drawings and deed descriptions.
  • Prepares maps and drawings.
  • Makes field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Takes field measurements of existing utility crossings.
  • Prepares cost estimates from preliminary designs and completed construction plans.
  • Reviews private development plans to identify conflicts with existing County utilities or proposed capital improvement projects.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, and records.

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.

Plus

Six years' subprofessional engineering experience.

(Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to maximum of four years for the required experience.)

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education

Applicants are required to submit proof of license(s), certification(s) and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferredqualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Proof of Degree Equivalency

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this classification is essentially sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, and other limited physical activities including travel to various work sites.
