POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Manages and coordinates construction activities with contractors, developers, public agencies and technical support staff. Reviews plans and reports and provides customer service.

Position Specific Summary
The Engineering Associate position at the City of Tucson's Department of Transportation & Mobility is responsible for reviewing and analyzing site plans, development proposals, and right-of-way permits to ensure compliance with department guidelines including United Development Code (UDC), Technical Standards Manual, and the American Disability Act (ADA).
Work is performed under the supervision of the Engineering Manager. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan Review (35%) - Essential
Reviews development packages, right-of-way permits application materials, and traffic control plans to ensure compliance with department, federal, state and local rules and regulations. Monitors workflow and assignments in EnerGov system to ensure timely responses. Ensures plans are filtered through other divisions for additional reviews (i.e., traffic engineering, real estate, floodplain etc). Highlights and suggests solutions to conflicts or discrepancies between submitted plans and regulatory requirements.
Technical Evaluation (30%) - Essential
Ensures the right-of-way permits and development plans comply with United Development Code (UDC), Technical Standards Manual, and Department of Transportation & Mobility standard specifications from detailed drawings. Analyzes, maintains, and tracks design review comments. Ensures timely reviews, and shares evaluation of pavement moratorium information and other operational restrictions with leadership or other departments.
Communication (20%) - Essential
Provides customer service by answering questions, researching information and problems, retrieving files and maps, providing permit application reviews, handling complaints and violations and identifying solutions. Corresponds with contractors, developers, and planning technician staff.
Data and Reporting (10%) - Essential
Prepares detailed review comments, reports, and correspondence outlining compliance issues and required revisions. Maintains records of permit applications, review status, and final decisions. Enters data into the database (Open Gov CarteGraph Asset Management).
Other Duties as Assigned (5%) - Non-Essential
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Associate degree
Work Experience:
Two (2) years of directly related experience
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Minimum Hiring Salary: $24.16
Dependent upon experience, qualifications, and successful completion of any applicable job training
Full Hourly Range: $24.16 - 41.68 USD

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Salary placement is typically between the minimum and mid-point of the salary range.
