Overview

This position is for a Engineering/Buyers assistant. Primary responsibilities will be to assist engineers and senior buyers with their daily activities, perform cycle counts as needed and other various duties. Engineering duties will be to assist engineering staff with new designs, test stand assembly/wiring, and part fabrication.

Responsibilities

Daily duties may include:

  • Assists with purchase orders for parts, services and/or tools.

  • Inventory cycle count duties

  • Credit Card Statement Reconciliation

  • Work with engineering, project managers and suppliers, to ensure deliverables are met.

  • Facilitate and manage any supplier issues (i.e. cost, quality, delivery)

  • Vendor/Supplier order follow-up via E-mail and phone

  • Support Engineering Team in supplier selection and approval process

  • Establish and maintain sound professional relationships with suppliers.

  • Maintain current accurate records of all vendor related procurement records

  • Ensures that all necessary quotations are processed and assumptions are accurate from an Engineering/Supply standpoint

  • Assisting Engineers with new designs

  • Fabrication of prototype parts using basic machine shop equipment (manual mill, lathe, band saw, drill press, etc.)

  • Writing test procedures and processes

  • Assemlby and wiring of test stands or test fixtures

Qualifications

Associates degree.

  • Experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook is required

  • Must be able to work in a team or independently

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Experience filing documentation/paperwork

  • Professional communication skills, including in-person, phone and e-mail

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with MS PowerPoint, Visio, Access, OneNote, etc.

  • Experience in purchasing or related field and/or Electronics field

  • Knowledge or experience with Epicor

  • Ability to read blueprints or technical documents is a plus

  • Prior interdepartmental and/or supplier communication experience is a plus

Position Overview As part of a New Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, the Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for all advanced manufacturing engineering activities for a next generation battery design and manufacturing development. Primary responsibilities * Support New Product Li-Ion Cell Development activities from concept to ramp up production. As the Lead for the Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, provide direction on costing, manufacturability changes, equipment selection, capacity analysis & quality. Provide support on engineering prototype builds, pilot production and production * Support product transitions from the U.S. to other production regions, including China and Europe * Manage phase gate product release manufacturing documentation required to support production builds. These documents include work instructions, quality SPC targets, Gauge R & R and other manufacturing related documentation. * Administer Process FMEA activities to ensure process shortcomings are identified and addressed. Participate in design FMEA activities. * Support continuous improvement manufacturing engineering activities to achieve and exceed quality targets. * Direct Team in use of statistical techniques as a tool to improve existing processes and define new processes * Develop and support new manufacturing processes required to support new technologies. * Participate in Product Design reviews to insure manufacturability of products * Oversight of planning, executing and analyzing experiments * Manage the development of standardized manufacturing documentation such as equipment specifications, operator instructions, drawings, and BOMs * Implement best manufacturing practices for existing processes and provide multi-site manufacturing engineering support. * Oversee competitive product reviews and provide manufacturing feedback to design and marketing groups. * Research and vet new manufacturing technologies and practices. * Coordinate cross-plant problem-solving teams to improve operating performance. * Assist with business-critical capital projects including facility planning and layout. * Develop and implement manufacturing plans and presentations for new products * Identify and justify Advance Manufacturing key design changes, processes and equipment. Specific Skills/Abilities * Thorough understanding of manufacturing concepts including: Value Stream Mapping, OEE, and TPS are necessary * Verifiable analytical skills and abilities to evaluate and improve production processes and capabilities * Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate activities across multiple locations - champion the benefits of technology sharing across the organization * Experience in manufacturing cost analyses of new and existing products, including processing cost analysis. * Capability of motivation and leadership for problem solving and continuous improvement. * Working knowledge of APQP, 5S, and Six Sigma Principles. * Knowledge of Process Control such as Control Plan, FMEA development, etc. * Expert level knowledge of manufacturing equipment specification, procurement, validation plan creation and execution. * Ability to lead cross functional teams to document, prioritize, and execute tasks related to process and machinery issue resolution and continual improvement initiatives * Strong organizational skills. * Project management Education/Experience * BS in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering. * 5yrs + experience in high volume battery cell manufacturing. * Knowledge of DFM, Lean manufacturing, phase gate product release process and Six Sigma Principles. * Some experience in automation and tooling Training Required * Safety & Company Orientation * A123 Battery University 100 & 200 courses * Manufacturing simulation software (Simul8 preferred) * High Voltage component assembly * This position is based Livonia, MI, it will require travel to manufacturing operations in Asia, Europe and MA as needed.
