Consider joining the City of San Bernardino's Public Works Department as an Engineering Assistant I/II/III.
About the Engineering I/II positions:
The Engineering Assistant I/II use advanced technical skills and knowledge to provide land development and permit application information to the land development customers, and interpret civil engineering design plans such as grading, landscape, and street improvement plans to process land development permit applications.
About the Engineering III position:
The Engineering III works with an on-call engineering consultant to undertake paraprofessional technical and analytical duties crucial to supporting the City's Engineering and Public Works objectives such as processing on-site improvement permit; plan checking construction permit compliance; and project closeout, verify grading and issuing land development construction permits for grading and retaining walls, process tract map, parcel map, and lot line adjustment.
We are looking for candidates with:
Good communication: the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of Civil Engineering: Basic knowledge of civil engineering design plans & maps.
Good decision making: assess situations, analyze information, and make well-informed judgments.
People skills: Good customer service and has a welcoming, professional, and compassionate demeanor.

Driver's License: A valid State driver's license is required.
Education and Experience:
Engineering Assistant I (flex):
High School Diploma, G.E.D.;
AND
at least two (2) years of college-level coursework in engineering, architectural design, mathematics or related field,
AND
one (1) year of experience working as a subprofessional engineering technician or as an Engineering Assistant I-(FLEX) for the City; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Engineering Assistant II:
High School Diploma, G.E.D.;
AND
at least two (2) years of college-level coursework in engineering, architectural design, mathematics or related field,
AND
one (1) year of experience working as a subprofessional engineering technician or as an Engineering Assistant I-(FLEX) for the City; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Engineering Assistant III:
High School Diploma, G.E.D.;
AND
at least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience at, or equivalent to, the level of Engineering Assistant II in the City of San Bernardino,
OR
graduation from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or architecture; or an equivalent combination of training and experience COMPENSATION:
Engineering Assistant I (flex):
$26.78 - $32.55 Hourly
$4,641.76 - $5,642.60 Monthly
$55,701.12 - $67,711.20 Annually
Engineering Assistant II:
$30.33 - $36.88 Hourly
$5,258.00 - $6,391.85 Monthly
$63,096.00 - $76,702.20 Annually
Engineering Assistant III:
$36.30 - $44.13 Hourly
$6,292.09 - $7,648.71 Monthly
$75,505.08 - $91,784.52 Annually
BENEFITS AND REWARDS:
