The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Design and Engineering Services is looking for an Engineering Assistant 3/Engineering Associate/Engineer/Architect 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

SALARY INFORMATION:

Engineering Assistant 3 -- $ 41.13 hourly

Engineering Associate -- $ 41.13 hourly

Engineer/Architect 1 -- $ 3,295.50 biweekly

What you will be doing:

This position works with our regional Right-of-Way (ROW) Engineering team to deliver surveying and mapping products that are essential for transportation projects for local communities and the state transportation network. Projects in the Northern Region span as far south as Valdez, as far north as Prudhoe Bay, west to Nome, all of eastern Alaska and everything in between. This individual will work under the Right of Way Engineering Supervisor (Professional land surveyor) to create ROW base maps, Final ROW maps, Records of Survey, Airport Property Plans, Parcel plats & Legal descriptions.

This position plays a vital role in fulfilling this mission and vision by efficiently working within the Pre-Construction Right-of-Way program, building an excellent team and partnering relationships with communities, consultants, contractors and the traveling public. Land and Title issues in Alaska are varied and complex, and our team uses a wealth of archives and public data along with state-of-the art survey equipment and techniques to help resolve ROW challenges. Our land surveyors play a key role in supporting the transportation needs of all Alaskans while improving their quality of life through safety improvements and modernization of infrastructure for various modes of transportation improvements. They also provide critical service as a resource to private sector land surveyors on right of way matters.

This position will work from the DOT&PF complex (2301 Peger Road and 2720 Picket Place) which houses all of Northern Region's design, construction, maintenance and support staff between multiple buildings within walking distance along Peger Road. Telework is also an option. The daily work environment is highly collaborative.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineering Assistant 3

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.

AND

Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:

A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.

AND

An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

AND

Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:

Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).

Engineering Associate

Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying or architecture, of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:

ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.

Engineer/Architect 1

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note:

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at the Engineering Assistant 3, Engineering Associate, or Engineer/Architect 1 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class
