The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region Utilities Group is looking for an Engineering Assistant 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:

This posting is for the Billings Officer position within the DOT&PF Central Region Utilities Group. You will work closely with DOT&PF utility agreement writers, inspectors, and utility companies to review work and submit bills for payment to support utility relocation work on DOT&PF projects.

You will monitor funding and process project close outs for utility work. Your responsibilities will also include working with DOT&PF utility agreement writers and inspectors on change orders during construction. The position coordinates with DOT&PF Internal Review on overhead audits for utility companies. You will work under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Civil Engineer.

We contribute to DOT&PF's purpose to "Keep Alaska moving through service and infrastructure", by facilitating the relocation of utility systems to allow for the improvement of Alaska's highways and airports.

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.

AND

Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:

A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.

AND

An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

AND

Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:

Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).

At the time of interview, applicants are requested to submit (if not already attached to your application):

  • Copy of academic transcripts (unofficial are okay, please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcript) confirming receipt of bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying.

  • If applicable, verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
