GENERAL SUMMARY Works under the supervision of the Engineering/Maintenance Manager.
The Engineering/Maintenance Technician's primary job function is to repair and maintain hospital buildings and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, blueprints, and manufacturers' specifications using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments while following all safety precautions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required Completion of vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or refrigeration as demonstrated by certification preferred Associate's Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance preferred Licensure:
BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC's insurance carriers) BLS certification must be obtained within the first year of employment BLS within 90 days of hire required Experience: Approximately one to two years progressively more responsible related work experience necessary in order to gain knowledge of equipment repairs and to be able to troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of equipment and machinery problems preferred.
A moderate level of communication skills to interact with patients, coworkers, and outside professionals.
Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the use of all equipment used in pertinent areas including the following: computer, multi-meters, refrigeration scales, refrigeration equipment micrometers, dial indicators, and hand tools.
Essential Physical Requirements: Stands and/or walks for a majority of work time with regular breaks when installing, repairing or performing PM's on mechanical equipment.
Requires use of hands for repetitive simple grasping and fine manipulation when using hand tools.
Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching above shoulder level.
Has occasional contact with the customer and general public.
Occasionally works under close supervision but majority of the time without the assistance of other personnel.
Requires the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when observing equipment disassembling devices, making repairs, and maintaining logs.
Good vision is required when reading blueprints and visually inspecting machinery and equipment.
The ability to hear and speak is required when listening for unusual sounds and talking with supervisor and other employees to detect and diagnose malfunctions.
Exposure to Hazards:
Frequent exposure to greases and cleansers, toxic chemicals, sprays, etc.
Possible injury when climbing ladder and scaffolds.
Other: Must have the ability to use any and all pertinent equipment necessary for performing repairs, installations, etc.

Performs shift rounds (using the 5 senses for Inspection of Equipment). Performs electrical and plumbing installation/repair.
Performs architectural installation/repair (flooring/painting/dry-waling/wall covering). Performs refrigeration/HVAC installation/repair.
Performs pneumatic/electric control installation/repair.
Performs carpentry installations (cabinets/shelving/furniture repair). Performs preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled.
Removes snow and ice from parking lots, walkways, doors, etc.
Performs computer data entry.
