The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Division of Facilities Services is looking for an Engineer/Architect 2/3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

Anchorage: $3598.40 - $4120.00 (depending on level hired at)

Fairbanks: $3706.40 - $4244.00 (depending on level hired at)

Juneau: $3778.40 - $4326.40 (depending on level hired at)

What you will be doing:

This is a mid/senior-level project manager position working under a senior project manager. This position functions as a facilities design and construction manager requiring an intermediate level of knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering/architecture and project management. This position will manage, coordinate, and administer multiple intermediate to large sized complex facilities projects, and may supervise subordinate engineering assistants or project inspectors.

The working environment you can expect:

This position is located in Juneau with ample parking on site, access to mostly everything you need from shopping, restaurants, hiking trails, and more. This work is primarily performed in an office setting with occasional construction site visits. There is a possibility for a hybrid telework schedule based on Department policies. Travel by vehicle is required and a candidate must have a valid driver's license. Travel in light aircraft to remote locations may also be required.

Who we are looking for:

To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

  • Architecture: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and practices used in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of buildings or other structures, taking into consideration aesthetic and functional concerns.

  • Construction Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for overseeing construction projects from conception to completion, reviewing project deliverables, schedules, and cost estimates. Oversees all onsite and offsite construction activities to monitor compliance with project specifications.

  • Stakeholder Management: Knowledge of the concepts, practices, and techniques used to identify, engage, influence, and monitor relationships with individuals and groups connected to a work effort; including those actively involved, those who exert influence over the process and its results, and those who have a vested interest in the outcome (positive or negative).

  • Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.

  • Facility Construction: Knowledge of materials, processes, methods, and tools used to construct facilities, including structures, buildings and public facilities (roads and airports).

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer/Architect 2

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent.

Engineer/Architect 3

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect series), or the equivalent.

Special Note:

Note: Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 2 or Engineer/Architect 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
