The Electrical Design and Engineering (ED&E) directorate is looking for a candidate to serve as the engineering liaison for the program integration planning organization in support of the VIRGINIA Class Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW) program. The engineering liaison will be responsible to work with the ED&E team to ensure the electrical design plan supports SSW construction.

The engineering liaison for ED&E will work in a cross functional team of advance planners (AP), detailed planners (DP) and design build sustain (DBS) representatives to:

  • Drive ED&E engineering and design personnel to achieve construction drawing schedules

  • Attend and participate all ED&E drawing milestone meetings

  • Stage 0 - Preparation and Review

  • Stage 1 - Planning

  • Stage 2 - Validation / Kick Off

  • Stage 3 - Material & Joints

  • Stage 4 - Views & Preparation for Team Review

  • Stage 5 - Team Review / Drawing Release

  • Stage 6 - External Team Review / Drawing Release (As Applicable)

  • Act as liaison between ED&E and DBS/planning to provide construction drawing status and ensure parallel work is executed as soon as possible in-line with ED&E construction drawing milestones:

  • Stage 0 - DBS/planning start refined forecast and build plan

  • Stage 2 - DBS add drawing part numbers from drawing parts list to build plan

  • Stage 3 - Planning to start Pre-Start meetings

  • Act as single point of contact for all ED&E drawings

  • Ensure interim disclosure progress is recorded and maintained in scheduling tool (e.g. ARTEMIS) in accordance with ED&E progressing guidelines

Support additional, emergent SSW tasking as needed

  • Hiring All Levels*



  • Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related technical degree with electrical, computer or software concentration


  • Project management experience including use of management tools (e.g Microsoft Project, ARTEMIS, Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS))

  • Previous leadership experience on multi-discipline/cross functional teams or as a project lead

  • Previous experience related to submarine design and construction

  • Experience using Microsoft Word/Excel/Power Point and Siemens Teamcenter/NX


  • Highly motivated, possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills across all levels of management

  • Ability to multi-task, work in teams and possess skills that permit independent functioning without significant oversight

  • Ability to read and understand drawings

VIEW JOBS 9/30/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-12-29T00:00 Overview D489 MAIN PROPULSION MOTOR DRIVE (MPD) SYSTEMS ENGINEER: COLUMBIA Integrated Propulsion Systems (IPS) Engineering (Department 489) has an opening for an engineer to support design, test, analysis, and delivery of the COLUMBIA Class Main Propulsion Motor Drive (MPD). The MPD team responsibilities include design development, qualification testing, and analysis for the power electronics, electromagnetics, control systems, and software within the component. Engineers in the group will assist in troubleshooting and test support for the IPS Compatibility Test Facility in Philadelphia, PA, as well as, the sub-vendor DRS Naval Power Systems, Inc. (DRS-NPS) in Milwaukee, WI. Responsibilities: The engineer hired for this position may be expected to: * Coordinate vendor MPD design and redesign efforts (hardware and software) * Verify control system design compliance with procurement specifications based on simulation and test results * Interface with technical and management personnel at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), and DRS-NPS * Verify embedded software and firmware designs in GPPs, DSPs and FPGAs compliance with procurement specifications based on design deliverables and test results * Analyze and interpret simulation and empirical test data results to generate reports and formal recommendation letters to NAVSEA and NNL * Support pre-production testing and troubleshooting for units at IPS CTF in Philadelphia, PA * Support production hardware and software testing at DRS-NPS in Milwaukee, WI Qualifications Required: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with technical background (Electrical, Systems, Computer Science, etc.) * 2 - 14 years of relevant professional experience * Experience using MATLAB and Simulink * Experience in control systems, power electronics, variable speed motor drives, software configuration management, or software development and testing * Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense Preferred: * Master's Degree in Engineering with technical background (Electrical, Systems, Computer Science, etc.) * COLUMBIA Integrated Propulsion System (IPS) experience * Experience working with NAVSEA/NNL * Experience in multi-disciplinary systems engineering for complex systems based products * Experience managing procurement from a sub-vendor * Experience with MIL Standards * Ability to occasionally travel to facilities within the United States Skills Candidates selected for an interview should be prepared to demonstrate the following: * Effective communication skills * Highly driven personality * Strong leadership skills * Strong problem solver who is exceptionally well organized and detail oriented * Ability to understand macro level objectives and priorities while driving detailed level actions Electric Boat New London CT
