Design a complete and complex framework, system or product. Define processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.
Conceive system interfaces and business application prototypes. Identify, analyze and resolve system design weaknesses. Influence the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.
Provide multi-layered technical expertise for next generation initiatives. Responsibility includes full lifecycle design of multiple, complex products and new technology for successful product launches in embedded automotive multimedia products. Responsible for providing detailed requirements to software; hardware and test teams for embedded automotive multimedia products.
Contribute to the design and usability of a given product throughout conceptualization, development and implementation. Provide appropriate support and documentation, and help maintain design and usability integrity. Work with the customer, project, software, and testing teams to plan, manage, and provide status of development and delivery schedules.
Work with all other engineering disciplines to ensure development schedules are met. Analyze product issues and defects involving software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, and test engineering disciplines. Follow, recommend, and implement systems processes.
Prepare product and component related specifications to support manufacture or building of prototype products and systems. Develop user scenarios, task models, and conceptual and formal user interface prototypes. Troubleshoot embedded software programs for enhancements and new products.
Determine hardware compatibility. Plan, develop, and participate in experimentation and tests related to product development. Generate and analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
Provide direction to both on-shore and off-shore development teams on development of features. Work with high-end embedded RTOSs such as Linux and Android. Keep abreast of new technologies and methods for the purpose of recommending changes that will benefit current and future customer programs.
Assure best practices and design patterns are used consistently and appropriately. Prepare and analyze reports, charts, graphs, and other statistical information. Initiates, recommends, and tracks technical solutions.
A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or related field of study followed by five (5) years of progressive experience in the specialty field.

Primary Responsibility: The VAVE Engineer performs a variety of engineering work in designing, planning and overseeing manufacture, construction, testing and evaluation of components, equipment and systems used in lighting products and related control systems. This position will work closely with other disciplines in the development and timely completion of projects to include the planning and scheduling, cost analysis, evaluation of alternatives, design review, management review, tooling release and production release. Essential Functions: * Prepares and submits project plans and schedules for assigned work and submits project reports as requested to allow for management review. * Develops performance specifications, conducts reviews, and evaluates performance tests of designed components, assemblies, or systems to assure that completed work meets specifications. * Coordinates with the prototype shop and/or outside vendors the production of prototypes, to include initial and final prototypes, establishing feasibility of the device or system. * Coordinates the development of final product documentation, for release to Manufacturing, to include drawings and specifications, cost estimates, and computer releases. * Acts as a liaison with existing or potential vendors regarding tooling and part-cost related to projects. * Participates in the Project Level Design Review conferences. * Informs all appropriate personnel of the department's plans, programs, and operations that affect their areas, and maintains an awareness of developments in the field that relates to their job responsibilities and integrates them into own practices. * Keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art in the areas of lighting components, sensors, ballasts, transformers, drivers, LED's, and control systems * Searches for new materials, technologies and processes which would improve product performance and/or value. * Estimates engineering personnel needs to execute assigned projects. * Special projects as required by management.
