Role Summary:
This position is a Subject Matter Expert and responsible for the timely preparation and testing of emission certification vehicles. This role is the liaison between the Emission Certification/OBD teams at EEO, the technical teams in USA/Europe, the Testing Lab and Proving Grounds for any testing related questions and issues.
Role Responsibilities:
Vehicle Testing & Analysis - (75%)
Subject Matter Expert for vehicle certification testing
Monitors federal and state regulatory certification testing requirements
Coordinates and consults on upcoming certification testing projects
Creates and aligns test plans and test requests between the department and the lab
Coordinates mileage accumulation (e.g., 4k / 150k miles)
Develops deterioration factors for exhaust/evaporative emissions
Coordinates and supervises certification testing, primarily emissions, verification and fuel economy testing; supporting of OBD testing
Ensures the ordering, preparation and disposal of test vehicles in accordance with VW internal and regulatory requirements
Performs and oversees inspections of test vehicles to ensure it represents production vehicle (e.g., parts check)
Supports the Testing Lab during the test execution as needed
First point of contact for lab personnel for vehicle and testing issues
Liaison between other EEO department locations (e.g., Auburn Hills), the Oxnard Engineering Campus and Arizona Proving Grounds
Liaison to technical teams (e.g., VWGoA Engineering & Planning Center, VW Mexico, VW AG) and production teams to resolve vehicle issues
Analyzes test results and escalates issues as soon as they are detected
Performs PEMS (Portable Emission Measurement Systems) testing and data analysis in collaboration with PEMS Engineer
Reviews AECDs and calibrations to identify issues and inconsistencies
Subject Matter Expert in troubleshooting and interpretation of vehicle calibration information
Interprets calibration information and supports Office of General Counsel in analysis requests
Oversees vehicle testing billing activities
Leads and trains the team in vehicle preparation and certification testing requirements
OBD / Certification Application and Reports - (15%)
Supports the Certification and OBD Application creation and submission process as needed (e.g., multi-eye reviews, compliance checks, creation of applications during peak times)
Reviews technical bulletins and coordinate with VWGoA service colleagues to maintain consistency/transparency between certification and service related documents
Reviews, verifies and proposes AECD Submissions for alignment regarding rationality testing before inclusion in OBD and Certification applications and corresponds with responsible Brand departments for clarity and accuracy
Creates reports along with supporting documentation and conduct any necessary follow up related to the testing results
Creates and ensures accuracy of the quarterly CVN/CalID report to CARB
Communication and Special Projects - (10%)
Supports other testing activities (e.g., special project testing) as needed
Communicate certification testing status to internal customers
Works with Technical Program Management team to document and enhance internal processes

Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Engineering, Information Systems, Automotive Technology, or related field) - required
Master's Degree in Engineering or related field - desired

Detailed calibration knowledge including capability to read and interpret calibrations
Experience with engineering and analysis software (e.g., DiagRA, ETAS INCA, VECTOR CAN tools)
Experience with data measurement tools (e.g., ETAS, CANalyzer, ODIS)
Specialized Skills
Understanding of Volkswagen Group product portfolio, including technical features
Direct experience with emission/ OBD calibration or certification and emission testing.
Experience with PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System) testing
Work Flexibility:
~25% travel to various (test) locations in the US and international travel to Germany required
Workload occasionally requires additional hours beyond a normal work schedule incl. weekends
Work schedule can be flexible (e.g., flextime, or compressed work week) in alignment with management
Must be available to contact colleagues at U.S. and European locations and government agencies across the U.S. and Canada.
