The Senior Engineer, Telecommunications plans, designs, implements and manages all traditional voice and Voice-Over IP technologies and services. They ensure system integrity and security for all voice systems.

This position is responsible for the assessment and optimization of network design through review and assessment of user needs. The Senior Engineer, Telecommunications configures and implements system additions and modifications. They oversee complex projects, develop requests for proposals, evaluate vendor products and make recommendations for selection.

The Senior Engineer, Telecommunications resolves system outages and degraded service by working with internal technical staff and vendor support.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers' experiences and of TriMet's product and service offerings.

Essential Functions

1.Provide oversight and technical support for all TriMet's voice and data technologies.

2.Perform advanced planning, design, and implementation of high availability voice systems. Manage and document voice system configurations and performance baselines.

Install hardware and software upgrades and expansions. Utilize and maintain voice system management applications.

3.Responsible for security of the voice system environment, ensuring best-practice protection and PCI/DSS and HIPPA compliance.

4.Manage voice and data cable plant. Monitor and respond to phone service problems.

5.Work closely with all agency personnel and business partners to define their voice system needs and provide communication-consulting services. Provide end-user support, training, and documentation. Assist users in defining and resolving system-related problems.

6.Oversee complex projects, including developing formal project plans, scope, timeline, costs, and implementation.

7.Research, select and procure network hardware and software. Assist with budget and contracts for voice system maintenance and services.

8.Develop and implement communication system policies and procedures. Monitor adherence to agency standards, policies and procedures. Provide guidance and training to junior staff and contracted staff.

Position Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree is required.

A Bachelor's Degree in Voice or Data Network Communications is preferred.

A minimum of four (4) years total credited experience.*

Four (4) years of engineering-level experience in telecommunications technology field, in a corporate environment are required.

Four (4) years of engineer-level experience in Cisco Voice-Over-IP and call center solutions are preferred.

One (1) year of experience in training and user support for telecommunication systems is preferred.

The following licenses and certifications are preferred:

An MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer).

A CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).

A CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional).

A CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).

A valid Oregon or Washington driver's license and good driving record in line with TriMet policy is required.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
