The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads District is seeking an Engineer Senior Project Manager at the District Major Projects Design Section. As an Engineer Senior Project Manager, you would provide a professional level of experience in project management and technical leadership for the design and coordination of major transportation facilities, including studies, and the development of highways, right of way, and construction plans and specifications. This position will oversee the development of Design- Build and Design- Bid- Build Projects.

Candidates should have demonstrated ability to apply professional-level engineering knowledge of construction methods, standards, specifications, materials, policies, and procedures in the oversight of both in-house and consultant-designed highway projects. The incumbent shall maintain high-level skills in project management and design to provide extraordinary customer service. The position will manage overall project scopes/schedules/budgets and apply project management philosophy to meet programmed schedules and budgetary objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of strategic, operational and financial management principles, practices and

techniques.

  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering software.

  • Valid Professional Engineer's (PE) license.

  • Ability to oversee construction activities for multiple projects of varying complexity as Engineer-in-Responsible-Charge.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse groups.

  • Experience applying roadway engineering design and state and federal standards related to highway design and construction.

  • Experience applying federal, state and local transportation rules, regulations, policies and practices.

  • Experience in preliminary engineering and construction activities.

Additional Considerations

  • College graduate in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or equivalent

  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred

  • Experience with large complex projects in the transportation engineering or construction industry

Position requires a Professional Engineer license valid in Virginia or eligible for transfer to Virginia.

VDOT utilizes a market-based pay program, which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
