Description

Job Summary: The Sales Project Engineer will bridge the gap between technical aspects of engineering and the sales process for the applications engineering team, technical support team, parts and field mods teams. This involves understanding the technical requirements of customers and proposing engineering solutions. Provide support for pre-sales projects and, make repairs or modification of AAON units in the field. Provide feedback to solve equipment problems or recommend design/system changes. Offers support to team, feedback and train internal teams to provide exceptional customer support.

Essential Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Collaborates with sales team to provide technical expertise and support throughout the sales cycle.

  • Prepares detailed engineering proposals, including technical specifications, cost estimates, and project timelines, to present to potential customers.

  • Engages with potential clients to understand their specific requirements and challenges.

  • Provides technical advice and guidance on product applications and solutions.

  • Coordinates with the engineering team, project managers, and other departments to ensure that projects are delivered as per customer requirements and within the agreed timelines.

  • Develops a deep understanding of the company's products and services to effectively communicate their benefits and value propositions to customers.

  • Conducts technical presentations, trainings and demonstrations to showcase the company's products and services to internal team members and potential customers.

  • Stays informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market developments to identify new business opportunities and areas for growth.

  • Participates in contract negotiations with customers, ensuring that technical aspects are well-defined and align with the company's capabilities.

  • Provides technical support to customers during the implementation phase and addresses any technical issues that may arise after the sale.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records of customer interactions, project details, and sales-related documentation.

  • Assists the pre-sales Applications department with complex issues and projects.

  • Applies engineering knowledge to generate solutions for unique HVAC projects.

  • Performs complex calculations as required for codes, LEED, rebates or other customer needs. (EER, IEER, ISMRE, COP, etc.)

  • Analyzes data such as customer design proposals and specifications to determine feasibility of design change utilizing engineering principles and advanced computational methods.

  • Interprets wiring diagrams or ECat ratings to help diagnose issues in house or in field.

  • Works with others to investigate potentially serious customer complaints to help remedy the situation and/or promptly implement corrective measures as required.

  • Works with Engineering and Manufacturing Departments to upgrade design and quality of equipment.

  • Develops and implements systems and procedures to maintain positive customer relations and ensures the prompt and thorough resolution of customer inquiries, requests and complaints.

  • Directs modification projects of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and customer's specifications.

  • Evaluates product applications using performance selection software.

  • Provides technical support to assist internal personnel in properly processing orders.

  • Provides unit change Bill of Materials (BOM) for tech support or field modifications.

  • Setups AAON part numbers for parts department.

  • Makes "Kits" for units in the field.

  • Provides assembly instructions/assembly drawings for kits or modifications of AAON units in the field.

  • Generates submittal drawings or curb drawings.

  • Assists field service teams when needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA or BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering or similar degree in applied sciences to meet requirements. Master's degree is a plus.

  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience or equivalent similar industry experience. Experience with controls, modeling and simulation, and advanced computational methods is preferred. Must be well versed in HVAC systems and HVAC applications.

  • Professional Engineer's licensure, EIT and/or LEED certification is a plus.

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Strong technical background and understanding of engineering principles.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey technical information.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills to identify customer needs and propose appropriate engineering solutions.

  • Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.

  • Ability to make engineering decisions based on HVAC system design requirements.

  • Safety conscious.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to sit comfortably for prolonged periods of time.

  • Ability to climb.

  • Work requires frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.

  • Ability to travel as the job may require visiting customers and project sites.

Equipment or Software Knowledge or Skills:

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)
  • Experience with VBA or EES is a plus.
