The Engineer - Mechanical designs functional, reliable and cost effective heavy duty vehicle components. Perform engineering analysis and design or re-design, and development of components into existing and new vehicles.

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Under close supervision, perform basic engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.

  • Support senior engineers in the preparation of basic plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.

  • Under close supervision, work on projects of limited complexity in a support role.

  • Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally.

  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.

  • Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.

  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.

  • Perform and Directs preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.

  • Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.

  • Provide non-complex technical assistance for production support.

  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.

  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.

  • Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.

  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering and communicate status via verbal or written communication.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field along with Internship experience or six (6) or more months of related work experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.

  • Experience with a high level CAD system.

  • Complexity, Judgment and Problem Solving: Generally structured work, but involving a choice of action within limits of standard policy and procedures.

  • Supervisory/Managerial: General instructing, scheduling, and reviewing the work of others performing the same or directly related work. Acts as "lead worker".

  • Work Schedule: Routine shift hours. Infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
