Job Summary

The Reliability Engineer is responsible for performing studies and analyses relating to the reliability of the Electric Transmission, Substation & Distribution Systems and their components. This position requires interfacing with PSEG Long Island Operations personnel and the Long Island Power Authority to identify and assess reliability issues; identify the data and systems necessary to drive corrective actions; and to develop appropriate strategies and programs.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include developing and analyzing data to support and recommend changes to the capital and maintenance budgets associated with reliability improvement programs (i.e., Circuit Improvement Program, Distribution and Transmission Tree Trim Programs, Exit Feeder Program, Transmission & Substation Reliability Programs, etc.). Additionally, must use technical expertise in conjunction with working knowledge of the electric transmission, distribution and substation systems to:

  • Provide innovative solutions to improve electric reliability.

  • Identify, evaluate and implement systems to support the short and long term goals and objectives.

  • Analyze system performance in order to maintain/improve overall system reliability.

Areas of on responsibility include the following:

  • Preparing and analyzing reliability statistics, interruption data and GIS information as it relates to the Transmission & Distribution System.

  • Performing engineering analysis to understand system behavior and effect of programs, and develop solutions to maintain continual improvements.

  • Develop reporting solutions to track progress, efficacy, and cost effectiveness of reliability programs.

  • Facilitate discussions and internal analyses and data validation efforts of interruption data across service territory

  • Participate in revising reliability programs strategic visioning and supporting implementation plans and update field patrol guidelines.

  • Conducting investigations, including field inspection, of diverse Transmission & Distribution interruptions with assistance from various departments to determine root cause and corrective action plans.

  • Identification, prioritization, and tracking of corrective actions based on the potential impact and risk to Transmission & Distribution reliability.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional Engineering experience

  • Knowledge of Transmission and Distributions system operations

  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Proficient in MS Office applications

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment

  • Possess leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus

  • Must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and results-oriented.

  • Must have professional written and verbal communications skills

  • Candidate must be able to interface effectively within a diverse organization and have excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and must maintain and apply a working knowledge of PSEGLI Standards

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driving license and maintain a safe driving record

  • Must be willing to work OT as required and perform on-call/emergency support as needed
