The Role
This position is for an Engineer Project 5 within Department E26 - Aircraft Carrier Engineering Platform Piping Systems. The person filling this role will report directly to the Department E26 Manager serving various functions as needed, including:
Key technical advisor to management
Spokesperson when interfacing with internal and external customers on key technical issues
Triage support for major technical issues throughout the department
Piping and distributed system expertise
Development/mentorship of engineering staff
Review of technical letters, DFSs, and drawings
Lead and/or oversight of major cross-departmental efforts
Support tracking and enforcing of department metrics
Researches, develops, designs, and/or tests components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines. May design equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Applies engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
