Job Description

The Product Engineer is responsible for product development and product engineering activities at WoodCrafters (BOM, ECO/TED, Pilot Runs, drawings, materials). This position involves working in a team environment with other departments. The Product Engineer also works with external customers and suppliers. Performs continuous quality improvement of product & reduces costs to be competitive and satisfy the customer.

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops Bill of Materials using ERP which includes defining the structure, materials and their usages, and standard hours

  • Coordinates Pilot Runs of new products to ensure manufacturing feasibility

  • Develops & Implements engineering changes related to materials, standard hours or any other modification to the product

  • Develops & Coordinates Temporary Engineering Deviations related to materials or processes

  • Evaluates new materials such as hardware, particle board, packaging components for existing and new products

  • Works with other departments such as Design Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality, Operations, Service, Marketing, Sales, etc in order to complete job tasks

  • Works with external customers and suppliers, dependent upon project and program activities

  • Performs Continuous Quality Improvements to products & reduces costs to be competitive & to satisfy the customer

  • Makes/Releases part drawings ensuring that specifications, critical characteristics and tolerances and clearly set.

  • Develop line balances, tooling and fixtures as needed.

  • Generate plant layout designs utilizing CAD.

  • Develop and maintain all process documentation including simulations programs.

Requirements:

Major skills and competencies

  • Education and Training: The Product Engineer should have a BS degree in Engineering or an Engineering Technology degree, preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering. Other majors can be considered dependent upon course work and area of concentration. The Product Engineer should preferably have knowledge of SolidWorks or other design software.

  • Technical Requirements: Two years of related technical experience is desired, but recent college graduates will be considered based on course work and grades

  • Managerial Experience: Product Engineer should have management/leadership skills and should be able to handle multiple engineering projects from start to finish

  • Stress Tolerance: Ability to work effectively under stressful work conditions (dealing with multiple high priority projects)

  • Teamwork: Ability to work well with others to achieve common goals

  • Listening/Communicating: Ability to listen attentively to others, ask appropriate questions, and speak in a clear and understandable manner

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Pass a drug test

  • Be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings

  • Fluent in English and Spanish

Physical Demands:

  • Walk, stand, bend, and sit for short/long periods of time to perform job functions

  • Manipulate, handle, reach, feel, and control items or equipment

  • Able to read, write, and interpret written documents

  • Occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Environmental Factors:

The work environment includes:

  • Typical office environment, with minimal exposure to noise, with outdoor exposure to heat, cold and environmental elements

  • Manufacturing site visits including exposure to noise, moving objects, heat, cold and wood dust.

  • Traveling including exposure to heat, cold and any weather conditions
