What You Will Do:

The Engineer

  • Packaging Optimization is responsible for the support of the Unit of Production (UP), regarding the control testing of packaging components, bulk, WIP, and finished goods. Work with the UP Production management and others as necessary. Assist UP in continuous improvement of manufacturing operations using problem solving tools and through component and finished goods inspection. Responsible for ensuring that suppliers and manufacturers (internal and external) of packaging components and finished goods provide the specified quality in accordance with the accepted L'Oréal methods and standards. The QE will identify and resolve quality related problems or issues that arise in process, systems, methods or procedures used to produce these components, WIP, or finished goods.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in an engineering field

  • 1-3 years' experience in packaging development, packaging, or production support; preferably in consumer goods or related industry

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is a plus.

  • Quality experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Basic knowledge/understanding of statistics

  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and related MS Office Software. SAP, Minitab is a plus.

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, make decisions, and good organizational/ time management skills.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all safety procedures.

  • Communicate effectively and build positive work relationships with all levels of the company.

General Job Duties:

  • Ensure good performance and efficiency between components and filling/packing equipment.

  • Participates in conception risk analysis, leads production risk analysis, ensures mitigations are in place for high-risk exposures.

  • Initiate and organize all line trials. Coordinate receipt of new components with Packaging Team. Summarize line trial results with action plan.

  • Support and lead product validation activities. This includes installation, operational, and process validation.

  • Defines and approves incoming packaging specifications for components. Ergonomic considerations to support safety, handling for interaction with production equipment. Communicates with Packaging Team and Supplier to ensure guidelines are followed and waste reduction target obtained.

  • Defines and specifies all tertiary packaging (packaging of outgoing finished goods): cartons, dividers, cases, case label, bundle wrap. Ensure all tertiary packaging have standardization as much as possible to drive efficiencies and cost down.

  • Defines optimum palletization plans, ensure Supply Chain constraints are taken into consideration; ensure 100% accuracy between data entry and physical measurements.

  • Works with production and quality to establish defect range boards for finished goods. Documentation of defects for marketing approval.

  • Reviews finished goods specifications and work instructions with production. Ensure standardization of "Good practices" across production areas.

  • Collaborate with Packaging Team for optimization of existing components in order to improve quality, reduce cost (Value Analysis) and/or drive efficiency.

  • Support factory acceptance protocol with data to validate the ability of the components to interact with new equipment in a manner that meets and exceeds safety, quality and production requirements.
