The Engineer is responsible for overseeing and conducting engineering studies, developing design drawings and/or specifications, and performing related administrative duties. This position is governed by state and federal law and agency policy.

Typical Functions Inspects sites to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and state and federal regulations during all phases of construction and/or inspects existing facilities for fire and safety code compliance and proper equipment operation. Completes reports of findings and takes necessary action to correct deficiencies. Designs, drafts, and/or reviews plans of proposed projects, and reviews engineering reports, plans, and specifications for compliance with all regulations and guidelines. Consults with public officials, consulting engineers, and architects, concerning design recommendations and/or design modifications for projects. Gathers data and researches technical information for monthly reports and for various studies.

Prepares written inspection reports. Performs other duties as assigned. Special Job Dimensions Must be able to work outdoors and on construction sites, if applicable to the educational specialty.

May be exposed to hazards in the field or the laboratory. Frequent in-state travel is required. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering relating to the work performed.

Knowledge of construction plans and designs. Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing the field of engineering. Ability to inspect plans and/or structures to determine compliance with regulations.

Ability to prepare and present technical information verbally and in writing. Ability to design and draft construction plans and write specifications. Minimum Education and/or Experience The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in chemical, electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must possess a valid Arkansas drivers license. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

This professional will be fully competent in all conventional aspects of subject matter or functional area of assignments. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible to plan and conduct work requiring judgement in independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Independently performs most assignments with technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans. May supervise less experienced engineers or technicians while managing a specific project that is relatively small in scope. May be newly licensed as a Professional Engineer. Job Responsibilities: * This Mechanical Engineer will be responsible to oversee the design of work that is compliant with engineering best practices, consistent with client requirements, subject to industry codes, and within project cost parameters. * Supervise Engineering Interns, technicians, designers and drafters to ensure that they perform in a professional and quality manner, while reviewing as necessary all designs and drawings for accuracy, and training when deficiencies are discovered. * The Mechanical Engineer will manage and report status and cost of projects and record all phases of the project in the Company project management software. * The Mechanical Engineer will at times be engaged to support team members by working on projects that are associated with Commissioning, Retro-Commissioning, O&M Training, or other disciplines that may support the success of Bernhard TME. * Coordinate with all engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Structural, Fire-Systems, Plumbing or contractors to ensure that the project designs are effectively integrated for each project. General Education and Experience: * Requires a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. * Five+ years of experience, with a Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensee. * Experience with the design and build of complex facility energy projects, with knowledge of Central Plant and control systems.
