Job Description:

This position is the Engineer of Record for the Blue Water Bridge; responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and overseeing all construction and maintenance activity at the Blue Water Bridge (BWB) in accordance with the mission, vision, values and objectives of the Bureau of Bridges and Structures (BOBS) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Responsible for the larger projects life cycle from design to construction and continuing through into the maintenance phase as well as overseeing smaller projects handled by lower level engineer. Maintenance and construction include activities such as painting, structural repairs, snow removal, necessary inspections, bridge file maintenance, and development of programs that improve and preserve longevity of the plaza and structures.

Coordination with stakeholders, operations center management, short and long term asset management and development of a formal maintenance plan for the Blue Water Bridge. Select and assign staff ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotion. Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.

Identify, implement and foster open communications with the BWB management team, MDOT staff, and maintenance personnel. Evaluate employee performance through completion of required formal evaluation processes and identify staff development and training needs.

Required Education and Experience


Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering


Five years of professional experience equivalent to an Engineer, including three years equivalent to an Engineer P11; two years equivalent to an Engineer 12, Engineer Manager 12, or Engineer Manager-Licensed 12; or, one year equivalent to an Engineer Manager 13, Engineer Manager-Licensed 13, Engineering Specialist 13, or Engineering Specialist-Licensed 13.

Additional Requirements and Information

Possession of a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.

Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Document (WHTI) Passport, Passport card, NEXUS Card, State Enhanced Driver's License within six months from the date of appointment.

Valid driver's license.

Domtar is the largest integrated marketer and manufacturer of uncoated free sheet paper in North America, with 10 pulp and paper mills producing approximately 3.4 million tons of uncoated free sheet paper annually. Paper manufacturing operations are supported by 15 converting and distribution operations including a network of 12 plants located offsite of paper making operations. Approximately 81% of paper production capacity is in the U.S. with the remaining 19% being in Canada. Employment Opportunity: Domtar is currently seeking a Plant Electrical Engineer for the Port Huron, MI mill. The mill is a four machine non-integrated operation producing 115,000 tons of lightweight specialty and printing papers annually. End uses for Port Huron products include packaging and converting grades for quick-serve foods, candy, and medical market segments, as well as papers for various books, catalogs, and financial publications. Position Description and Responsibilities: The Plant Electrical Engineer reports to the Engineering Leader and is responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, inspections, coordination and reliability of the mill's power distribution system. The engineer will represent the mill and coordinate activity and resolve issues between the mill power distribution system and the mill electrical power provider. The engineer will also be involved in identifying and developing capital projects relating to power distribution upgrades consistent with NFPA70E and the National Electrical Code and installations, modifications, and upgrades of AC and DC variable speed drives and motors, programmable logic controllers, motor controls and motor control centers as well as maintaining our assets and driving reliability improvements. This position provides opportunities for growth and involvement in all things electrical and electrical-related. Growth opportunities exist within the mill as well as the wider Domtar organization.
