Job Summary

Position requires valid NYS Drivers License as well as FSLD Certificate with NYC.

As a Class I Engineer, you will

  • Take regular action to keep guest room and areas fully operable for guest comfort and safety and the work environment safe for fellow associates.

  • Use your wits and technical abilities to solve problems and make repairs effectively and efficiently.

  • Respond courteously to guest requests promptly and resolve matters to the guest's satisfaction.

  • Help with grounds upkeep.

  • Help keep the mechanical areas safe, orderly, and clean and maintain legible, orderly records.

Fundamentals

A high school diploma with technical or vocational schooling is preferred. Hotel experience is also preferred but not required. General knowledge of technical fields, such as carpentry, painting, and electrical, is expected. This position requires effective communication skills, a professional manner, the ability to work in a team and make independent decisions. Knowledge of Kemper Insurance Red Tag System and the ability to drive a pick-up truck may also be required. This position requires lifting at least 40 pounds.

VIEW JOBS 4/21/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-20T00:00 Overview Under the direction of the Director of Facilities with onsite supervision by the Facility Manager, the Maintenance Worker is assigned to complete building maintenance projects at all family shelters. The Maintenance Worker moves through the shelter ensuring all special project needs are completed. The Maintenance Worker helps to complete work orders and may at times be called upon to assist in the cleaning of all vacant units to ensure we maintain the regulatory vacant room preparedness time frame of four hours. Responsibilities * The Maintenance Worker reports directly to the Facility Manager regarding building maintenance, repair, and special project needs; immediately reports any major building repairs, hazards, defects and/or supply needs to the Facility Manager. * The Maintenance Worker promptly completes all work orders as assigned. * The Maintenance Worker takes responsibility for proper care and maintenance of tools, supplies, and equipment being used in the performance of duties. * The Maintenance Worker assists with ground clean up and snow removal as assigned. * The Maintenance Worker maintains a safe and sanitary workspace and follows all OSHA regulations. * The Maintenance Worker must be available to contact 24/7 in the event of a facilities emergency (i.e. snow, flood, fire, etc.). * The Maintenance Worker drives the agency vehicle as needed. Accurately tracks all mileage within the van log book. * As needed, the Maintenance Worker will clean and sanitize any assigned vacant units within the DHS regulatory timeline of 4 hours post discharge. * As needed, the Maintenance Worker promptly cleans all public areas and workspaces as assigned. * As needed, the Maintenance Worker empties all trash from the compactor as assigned. * As needed, the Maintenance Worker properly cleans and maintains floors (strip, wax, buff, mop and/or vacuum) as assigned * As needed, the Maintenance Worker assists in moving furniture and belongings of clients into and out of units as assigned. * The Maintenance Worker's schedule may include working on weekends * To continue to run each of our shelters with excellence and to meet the needs of the program, employees may be asked to assume their same position at one of our other shelters operated by the Salvation Army at the discretion of the Director of Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads. * Other assignments and tasks may be added at the discretion of the Director of Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads. * Has respect and consideration for the people being served. * Consistently reports to work on time and is ready to begin work at the start of the shift * Always provides proper notification as per Salvation Army procedures when late or absent. * Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow. Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision. * Maintains the confidentiality of clients, shelter/programs, agency, and/or The Salvation Army. * Reports to work well-groomed and in compliance with dress code. * Wears I.D. badge while on duty. * Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers and co-workers. * Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the work place and towards job. * Projects a good image in dealing with the public and its clients. * Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring shelter/program. Qualifications * High School Diploma /GED preferred or life experience within a related field can serve as a substitute. * Experience working with a disadvantaged population is a plus. * Must have ability to lift at least fifty pounds and be able to work at least an eight hour shift primarily standing and moving. * Must have ability to take and follow instructions and follow through with assigned tasks. * Must have familiarity with basic cleaning equipment. * Must be able to demonstrate knowledge in the areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting and have a technical knowledge of mechanical systems operated within the physical plant. * Valid NYS Driver's License is required. * Willing to become certified as a Fire Safety Coordinator is strongly desired Salvation Army USA Jamaica NY
