All applicable water related engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply including Civil, Mechanical, and Construction Management.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of large, complex water infrastructure; will have strong communication skills and ability to discuss complex topics to coworkers, contractors, vendors from all levels of experience; will have experience with Enterprise Asset Management systems to support data management and asset management initiatives; will have experience with assembling asset management data records to determine lifecycle costs and asset replacement priorities; ability to lead and execute projects that include infrastructure improvement and pipeline rehabilitation/replacement; will be able to perform condition assessments of water mains including leak detection, internal remote visual inspections, physical entry inspections, acoustic velocity testing, electromagnetic testing, and magnaflux leakage; will have experience with analyzing statistical data; constructing KPI's and dashboards to report on asset health; and have familiarity with ESRI GIS.

Candidates with experience in trenchless rehabilitation solutions are highly desirable.

This position will require the candidate to work both in the field and in the office.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under direction, performs complex professional engineering work in the research, planning, design, construction and installation of mechanical, hydraulic and other elements of a variety of capital construction, maintenance and/or asset management projects; provides engineering support to trade shop personnel in the diagnosis and resolution of mechanical system and equipment malfunctions and failures; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Theory, principles and practices of mechanical, electrical and materials engineering as they apply to the mechanical system elements of water utility design and construction; modern methods and techniques used in the design and construction of mechanical elements of a wide variety of water utility construction, maintenance and asset management projects; principles and practices of engineering economics; modern developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding assigned areas of engineering responsibility; general civil, electrical, cathodic protection and process control principles as they apply to the overall design and integration of water utility systems, facilities and equipment; general asset management principles and best practices, including equipment and systems maintenance methodologies; applicable laws, codes and regulations pertaining to mechanical elements of waterworks infrastructure design and construction and other standards and guides applicable to areas of responsibility; principles, practices, methods and tools of project management; principles and practices of sound business communications; safety policies and practices applicable to the work.

Ability to:

Make complex engineering computations; prepare and/or check and approve design plans and specifications for a wide variety of mechanical systems-related projects; perform difficult engineering research and analyze complex engineering and mathematical problems, evaluating alternatives and recommending or adopting effective courses of action; exercise initiative and sound judgment in carrying work responsibilities within District standards and guidelines; use a computer and standard engineering and business applications; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with other divisions and departments, consulting engineers, contractors, staff and others encountered in the course of work.

Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in mechanical, materials science or metallurgical engineering; and at least three years of progressively responsible professional mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a water utility; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Upon registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada, a Mechanical Engineer will advance to Mechanical Engineer P.E.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of Nevada is required for appointment to Mechanical Engineer P.E.

Certification as a Certified Reliability Engineer issued by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) is highly desirable.

A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
