This position is in the Engineering Group 2 Section of the Waste Services Division within the Office of Environmental Services.

This position is domiciled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4 or Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) for this position, as follows:

Engineer Intern 1- $26.44 per hour or $2,115.20 biweekly

Engineer Intern 2- $28.29 per hour or $2,263.20 biweekly

Engineer 3- $33.39 per hour or $2,671.20 biweekly

Engineer 4- $36.90 per hour or $2,952.00 biweekly

Engineer 5- $39.48 per hour or $3,158.40 biweekly

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE: Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana.

However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

NOTE: Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com  FUNCTION OF WORK:

To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Direct from a higher-level engineer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision may be exercised over Engineering Technicians.

LOCATION OF WORK:

May be used by all state agencies.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Engineer Intern Applicant by the presence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Differs from Engineer Intern 2 by the absence of independence when completing basic assignments.EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Assists in economic justification studies for proposed engineering facilities and performs computations and analyses of cost-benefit engineering considerations.

Applies basic engineering formulas to routine calculations.

Assists in the instruction and training of water and sewerage superintendents and operators in the safe and efficient operation of their plants and in the performance of such routine tests as are necessary for proper control of the treatment process.

Assists in the training of operators of swimming pools, etc. and occasionally aids in the classroom and field training of sanitarians.

Collects samples for chemical and/or bacteriological laboratory analysis, using special techniques as required.
