Nexant is seeking a proactive and self-motivated Engineer III to support work across Michigan who will be responsible for providing facility assessments and RCx services to building owners participating in utility sponsored energy efficiency programs.

Specifically help customers with energy efficiency opportunities to drive energy savings. This role is an instrumental part of the delivery and success of the program. The candidate will be responsible for: working with building owners participating in utility sponsored programs, conducting facility assessments and retro-commissioning (RCx) services, and other related tasks.   • BS or MS degree, preferably in Mechanical or Energy Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project experience or similar within the energy efficiency industry.
  • An understanding of building energy systems and RCx process.
  • Understanding of energy use systems of commercial and industrial facilities including lighting, HVAC systems, pumps, fans, process heating, refrigeration, and hot water equipment.
  • Understanding of controls and optimization and/or sustainability practices in commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with relevant energy efficiency codes and standards (e.g. IECC, Code of Federal Regulations, ASHRAE 90.1, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects and work with technical staff.
  • Previous relevant experience with success at managing multiple projects/programs, budgets, deliverables, and client relations.
  • Strong proficiency with oral communication, writing, and analytical skills. Planning, organization, and self-management in a professional environment a must.
  • Proven time management ability.
  • Must have a valid U.S. drivers license with a good driving record and a personal vehicle to visit customer sites.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite.
  • On track to receive or possess the following certifications: P.E., C.E.M. or LEED AP O+M certification

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional, high quality services to and build quick rapport with utility customers.
  • Independently identify energy-efficiency opportunities. Provide technical assistance and support for energy efficient project implementation.
  • Complete facility energy assessments or RCx studies of commercial or industrial facilities that identify key electric and natural gas energy saving opportunities.
  • Clearly explain and articulate energy assessment or RCx findings and process for utility incentives.
  • Assist customers with completing and submitting program documentation.
  • Communicate and coordinate efficiently with various project stakeholders and participants including program staff, contractors, and utility customers.
  • Support measurement and verification tasks including the installations of field monitoring equipment to establish energy usage patterns as necessary.
  • Perform and review energy savings calculations.
  • Write reports summarizing RCx study results, recommending energy savings opportunities and incentive payments.
  • Maintain quality control of deliverable products, demonstrating technical accuracy, excellence and clarity while maintaining project schedules.
  • Meet with utility customer and vendors to present results, develop new scopes of work, and co-manage projects as applicable.
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation and operation of replacement energy efficient equipment.
  • Meet overall project budgets and energy savings acquisition targets.
  • Support Nexants utility services offerings under the direction of an engineering manager.
  • Ability to travel and work outside the office at least 30%.
  • Other duties as assigned.
