About This Role

The Automation Technical Authority Team within the Global Engineering function is looking to hire an Automation Engineer. This engineer is accountable for assisting in Capital Project planning and execution. This role effectively contributes and adds value to all stages of the asset's lifespan, ensuring standards, specifications, strategic approach to manage the lifecycle of the asset ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and longevity. This role will provide guidance on technical projects and engineering/automation teams. This Automation Engineer will leverage industry-leading subject matter capabilities within the Automation discipline to create an aligned strategic technical direction for Biogen PO&T site & external development and manufacturing operations, drive cost effectiveness, productivity, and compliance.

This is a hybrid role to be based at our office in Research Triangle Park, NC.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in functional activities to support the Design, Development and Deployment of automated control systems, including: Capital Project Planning and Management, Control System Design, PLC/HMI/DCS configuration and FAT/SAT Testing

  • Support on the Commissioning and Validation of automated control systems, including: Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualifications and site turnover and support.

  • Help to develop / maintain / improve Automation strategy and develop / maintain / improve Automation best practices, standards and specifications, accordingly; contribute to cross functional discussions; drive innovation, cost effectiveness and speed to execution in Automation throughout Biogen

Who You Are

You should have a solid understanding of manufacturing process and utility automation related to your assigned subject matter expertise. You should have experience working on projects with increasing complexity, taking on more responsibility as appropriate, and would have demonstrated an ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver results. You have demonstrated capability to develop and execute automation and CSV on projects / project opportunities that are generally considered to be of medium complexity, which are projects that have relatively moderate risk, few stakeholders, and relatively simple regulatory requirements, but with less stringent timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or technical discipline and 3-5 years of experience in Biotech, Pharma or equivalent life science industry. A Master's degree and equivalent experience may also be considered.

  • Demonstrated experience in Automation

  • Excellent leadership, people management, organization, communication, and inter-personal skills are required

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, with an emphasis on project design and execution.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Background in the successful design, development, installation, commissioning and turnover of process automation systems involving: instrumentation, electrical control panels, PLC/HMI/SCADA or DCS programming and Historian configuration

  • Technical experience with Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell ControlLogix PLCs and FactoryTalk View HMI/SCADA, Siemens Simatic S7 PLCs and WinCC HMI/SCADA and Pi Data Historian

  • Experience with the Installation, Commissioning and Qualification of automated control systems to follow cGMP, GAMP, and quality requirements
