Design Engineer Front End System Mast Team

HYG designs, engineers, manufactures, sells and services a comprehensive line of lift trucks and aftermarket parts marketed globally under the Hyster and Yale brand names. HYG is looking for an energetic individual who will have a positive influence on the Front-End design team. As a Design Engineer, this person will have responsibility for design of mechanical systems and components, participating in research, analysis and problem solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interface with component suppliers and internal customers (Platform, Manufacturing, Marketing, Service, etc.) to understand detailed product requirements.

  • Translate truck-level and system-level requirements to component requirements.

  • Concept development for system design.

  • Create product design documentation such as CAE (computer aided engineering), detail drawings, engineering lists, test plans.

  • Plan and support development testing to ensure design robustness.

  • Communicate both verbally and through written reports.

  • Provide guidance to engineers, technicians and mechanics as needed.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS (ME preferred) with 0-5 year's work experience in an engineering field.

  • Knowledge/skill in vehicle/automotive technology.

  • Exposure and interest in, industrial equipment (materials handling, automotive, agricultural or similar).

  • Knowledge/skill in drafting practices, CAD, design layouts, engineering analysis and calculations.

  • Knowledge/skill in applying GD&T.

  • Desire for 'hands on' work in a shop environment.

  • Ability to operate or be trained on forklift equipment.

  • Occasional and limited travel (less than 10% total time).

  • Ability to work with limited supervision.

Preferred:

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project).

  • Knowledge/skill in applying FEA to evaluate and optimize structures.

  • Practical understanding of machining practices and manufacturing methods.

  • Experience applying risk assessment tools (DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams).

  • Experience with structures, welding, hydraulics, stampings, castings, injection molding.

  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings (components, weldments, hydraulic and electrical schematics).

  • Experience with Pro-Engineer/Creo.

  • Experience with rapid prototyping.

This role plays an important role in creating, modifying, and implementing designs to address customer needs. This individual interacts with all aspects of the organization, including marketing, manufacturing, procurement, and test, to ensure that we deliver quality forklift trucks that meet customer requirements and acceptance. Responsibilities: * Design and development of hydraulic systems for counterbalanced forklift trucks. * Seeks and provides basic input to the concept phase of projects. * * Works on the design of components, assemblies, or vehicle systems. * Perform calculations to meet defined system performance, efficiency and quality objectives. * Coordinate and develop hydraulic system designs to meet reliability and durability requirements. * * Provides product design documentation through the creation of detail drawings, engineering lists and Engineering Change Notices. * Typical documentation would include concept documents, requirements documents, bill of materials, detail drawings, test reports and service support documentation. * Integrates input into the design of components, assemblies, or vehicles systems, and may participate in the support of manufacturing activities such as Pilot or 1st Production. * Ensure designs developed are consistent with current manufacturing technologies. * Qualifications: * BS degree in Engineering required, with Mechanical background preferred. * Basic knowledge/skill in drafting practices, CAD, and design layouts. * Specialized knowledge/skill in engineering analysis. * Innovative thinking, troubleshooting and problem solving to apply basic principles and methods to resolve product issues. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Attention to Quality: Follow established procedures and be attentive to details to ensure accuracy in design, testing and documentation. * Decision Making: Exhibit good judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; demonstrate ability to take decisive actions to develop product. * Teamwork and Flexibility: Function well in a team environment by working well with other employees and other departments. Solicit opinions from coworkers, support group decisions, and display team spirit.
