POSITION SUMMARY

Engineers products / systems using established development processes with our automotive customers and internal affiliates and external suppliers. Create, validate and verify concepts and designs/data through sound engineering knowledge while following approved company processes and practices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design reviews to validate design and workability issues may be conducted at customer and Yazaki facilities.

  • Candidate may work on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, product design and technical plans as well as preparing drawings, layouts and customer proposals.

  • Candidate may also be responsible for evaluating competitive products and their performance, prototype testing, trouble shooting, recording, computing, analyzing test data, developing knowledge of new technologies and investigating rework requests

  • Diagnose and Trace issues through root cause analysis

  • Interact with other internal / external Engineering assets during the product development with effective communication

  • Represent Yazaki Engineering at Customer Engineering and Manufacturing sites as well as other Yazaki organizations / affiliates.

  • Propose alternatives or refine designs to reduce cost/weight/warranty or improve quality or manufacturability.

  • Develop and maintain program-specific design documentation (ex.DFMEA, DVP&R, DFM's, DR review documentation, etc.)

  • Evaluate and interpret information / drawings and documents provided from the customer for completeness and accuracy and clarify as needed

  • Perform rule checks on designs and drawings per departments / company work processes and instructions

  • Verify and validate designs by inspection, testing and component /vehicle builds-Interpret & communicate results to appropriate organizations

REQUIREMENTS

Degree Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical, or related field or equivalent as determined by the top engineering leadership within the department

Previous Experience:

Preferred automotive knowledge & intern/co-op experience Minimum of 0-2 years of relevant experience

Travel Requirements:

Work place may by internal or external such as a customer's Engineering location. Domestic and International travel may be required.

Language:

As required at time of hire

Software:

MS Office Suite. May include 2D or 3D CAD software as required

On Call Requirements:

During Customer / Affiliates builds, as required

Physical Requirements:

General office plus the ability to work with your hands during component builds and vehicle builds. Ability to climb into vehicles to troubleshoot or observe an issue.

Shift: Day Region: USA (US) Location: Canton , MI Design Engineer II - High Voltage Components POSITION SUMMARY To perform activities related to the design and development of electrical connection systems for the automotive industry. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Product Design * Perform all product development design analysis, studies, and calculations * Create all applicable APQP documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, QFD, and others as appropriate) * Prepare and Release Component Drawing/Design packages * Participate in Product Reviews/Evaluations (Design Reviews and Benchmarking) * Oversee and review component validation testing * Review and approve component inspection data Customer Management * Resolution of customer issues * Participation in QA related activities (8D, 5WPPS) * Provide Customer Support when needed * Prepare Customer Technical Presentations In addition to the above items, the Associate is expected to: * Set personal daily work schedules in accordance with assigned tasks, deadlines, and priorities * Perform assignments independently, with minimal guidance from the Supervisor or Manager * Work on multiple and potentially complex issues MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Degree Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Certification Requirements: None Previous Experience: * Knowledge of CAD Modeling (2D, 3D) (SOLIDWORKS capability preferred) * Working knowledge of PC environment (MS Office Products) * Ability to create new and interpret existing geometric drawings / models * Understanding of all APQP documentation and component PPAP process * Knowledge of industry test methods and requirements (USCAR, ISO, etc.) * Excellent oral / written communication skills * Working knowledge of linear FEA * Basic Materials knowledge (plastics, metals, rubbers) * 2 to 4 years relevant connector and/or terminal design experience desired * Experience with automotive High Voltage component design or systems preferred Travel Requirements: Domestic / International travel may be required On Call Requirements: Reasonable availability required Physical Requirements: Office position – primarily sedentary.
