Description of Work
Salary Range: $51,895 - $88,221 / Salary Grade: GN14
The employee in this position will serve as the Senior Assistant District Engineer in the District 3 Office located in Wayne County in Division 4. The employee in this position is responsible for:
Managing the day to day operations and performs contract administrative functions on large, complex Design-Bid-Build or Design Build construction projects. Directly supervise & provide engineering level support to technicians on complex projects. Provide training and assistance to DOT/CEI Technicians and entry level engineers.
Provide response to various inquiries from public, NCDOT officials and other governmental agencies. Make field engineering decisions and oversee Erosion Control efforts. Review project plans an specifications for compliance with established practices and principles of Engineering.
The employee in this position requires minimal supervision. Safety toe shoes are required. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 pm on the closing date of the posting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Experience reviewing project plans and specifications for compliance with established practices and principles of Engineering (i.e. - Spot Safety, locally-managed projects, subdivisions, right of way encroachments and driveway permit applications)
Experience in the supervision, direction, management and training of lower level employees and/or contract engineering personnel to achieve established project delivery metrics
Demonstrated ability in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
Demonstrated ability in communicating in written and verbal form, establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and Customer Service experience related to resolving problems
Experience in Microsoft office, Outlook, and use of GIS software
Employees should have the ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Night and weekend work may be required. This position is subject to work in any area of Division 4 depending upon work load Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
