Position Summary Description

This position provides complete Engineering & Design, project management, asset management, risk assessment, and technical support to a Combined Cycle construction project for a wide range of moderately complex issues. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of job functions and proficiency in applying sound engineering and project management principals to power generation and infrastructure facilities. Under limited general direction, independently plans work to meet assigned objectives; progress is reviewed periodically for technical accuracy and adequacy in process and upon completion. External contacts primarily include directing project-related work and contract administration with contractors and vendors; and providing information, conducting limited discussions, and obtaining approvals. Internal contacts are primarily with Seminole Power Generation personnel and services organizations discussing and reporting progress, exchanging, and coordinating information, and providing appropriate documentation. Under limited supervision and general direction, independently plans work to meet assigned objectives; progress is reviewed periodically for technical accuracy and adequacy in process and upon completion. May partner with internal or external stakeholders to solve problems or explore alternative solutions.

Work Location: Shady Hills Energy Center in Spring Hill, FL.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the project team from start of detailed engineering and design and initial construction through commercial operation and final delivery of the facility.

  • Contributes positively to a project culture that results in extraordinary safety, quality, budget and schedule performance.

  • Follows through on all assignments in a timely and effective manner.

  • Understands contract requirements.

  • Assists in ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.

  • Assists in assuring as-installed conditions meet as-designed conditions.

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of technical drawings, plans and procedures.

  • Participates in processes to identify, monitor, mitigate and report on project risks.

  • Collaborates on all aspects of project engineering from detailed design through commissioning.

  • Works collaboratively with internal cross-functional teams and externally with project counterparties.

  • Facilitates interaction between contract personnel involved in construction activities with Owner's operations personnel from commissioning through initial operation and plant acceptance.

  • Supports technical aspects of the change management process.

  • Provides input to reporting requirements as needed.

  • Maintains project history through reports, meeting minutes, photos, etc.

  • Prepares or assists in the development of technical specifications, pricing documents, bidders' lists, bid evaluation criteria and project cost estimates for process systems, equipment or maintenance projects.

  • Reviews and approves technical reports, specifications, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings for projects

  • Identifies gaps between current project practices and stated objectives and provides inputs or recommendations for solutions and/or process improvements to address gaps.

  • Performs and/or reviews engineering analyses and studies, detailed scope, viable alternatives, conceptual designs, and recommended fixes to ensure safe and quality design, construction, commissioning, and operation of generation assets.

  • Collaborates with supervision and combined cycle Project Manager, evaluates and reviews contracts for technical compliance to applicable codes, standards, specifications, and regulations.

  • Proactively evolves engineering and project management skills and knowledge through on-the-job training, industry associations & conferences, technical workshops, trade publications, etc.

  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form as applicable and directed. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and the context of your duties and responsibilities attendant to your designation in the SOM.

  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related area is required from an accredited institution or applicable equivalent training and education. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Florida is preferred. Four (4) years of cumulative experience in project engineering, design, and construction of large, modern power plants or industrial facilities. Working knowledge of power generation industry including understanding of design, construction, and/or operation of rotating machines, and experience interpreting applicable codes, standards, regulations, and practices. Demonstrate informed judgment when making decisions and recommendations and use of technical & business judgment in applying engineering and project management principles and techniques to determine cost effective and practical solutions.

Physical Requirements

Must wear a hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses while at plants. May be required to use other personal protective equipment such as hearing and respiratory protection. Must be able to effectively utilize catwalks and ascend/descend portable and stationary ladders. Must be capable of working effectively from heights of 250 feet. Must be able to safely lift objects of 25 lbs. Must be capable of effectively using a computer, telephone, and two-way radio. Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Working Conditions

Office, power plant and construction site environments. Occasional travel in Florida as well as various locations to visit power plants, other industrial facilities, and attend meetings with consultants and equipment suppliers is required. Some extra work outside of normal business hours occasionally required. Must be available to work extended hours and respond to call outs. Requires working on an active construction site with its associated extreme temperatures, inclement weather, high noise levels, working heights, and dusty or dirty conditions. A valid passport may be required or ability to obtain one for any travel outside of the United States.
