What part will you play?

  • GAF Energy is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer, reporting to the Principal Reliability Engineer as part of the research and development team working on new products to integrate solar energy generation into residential roofing systems

  • In this role you will use your knowledge and experience to characterize an improve the lifetime reliability and performance of GAF Energy products

  • In this role, you will test, analyze, and report design reliability findings and collaborate cross-functionally as an advocate for reliability and performance improvement

  • In this role, you will provide reliability engineering support for new product development along with reliability analysis of partnering and competitive companies' products.

What will you be doing?

Responsibilities include developing and implementing plans and processes to characterize product reliability and performance with a focus on warranty assurance. You will work with product development, supply chain, and manufacturing to ensure that product reliability satisfies company specifications and complies with regulatory requirements for safety and performance.

  • Define reliability demonstration and assessment strategies for power electronics

  • Champion Design-for-Reliability and Design for Safety

  • Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (DFMEA) and lead testing and evaluation of high risk items

  • Create reliability test plans focused on technical risks and which complement project schedules and certification requirements

  • Develop and document approaches to evaluate product reliability characteristics based on best practices, appropriate standards, and physics-of-failure

  • Develop and perform accelerated life tests, Design of Experiments, data analysis, reliability statistical analysis (especially Weibull) and statistical sampling plans

  • Manage execution of test plans with internal and external test laboratories

  • Ensure tests are successfully executed/implemented and data, results, and recommendations are reported to the organization

  • Participate in data reviews and analysis to help determine risks and actual or potential causes of failures and propose possible solutions based on experience and best reliability practices

  • Develop subject matter expertise regarding high risk and high frequency failure modes, especially for methods of detection and analysis

What do we require from you?

  • BS or higher degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and 3+ years relevant work experience in reliability or power electronics

  • Work experience requirement can be satisfied with MS degree and 2+ years relevant work experience or Doctorate degree with no work experience

  • Experience using statistical tools to make data driven decisions

  • Professional experience in Reliability Engineering is preferred:

  • Effective reliability/life test planning and reporting

  • Reliability & failure distribution modeling

  • Experience performing reliability qualification of electrical and electronic products

  • Working understanding of thermodynamic principles & thermal mechanics preferred

  • Excellent documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills are required

  • Creativity and problem solving skills, demonstrated ability to learn on the job and acquire new skills and a can-do attitude

  • A commitment to safe work practices

Benefits and Compensation:

Individuals hired for this position can reasonably expect a base salary within the range of $100,000 - $140,000. The company provides comprehensive health and retirement savings plan benefits that support an employee's total well-being.
