Summary:
Design Release Engineers develop and execute pack/module/thermal design/development for battery systems and pack/module/thermal components by properly understanding customer requirements. In addition, battery pack and module engineers work with BMS development in part, systems engineering and current production team members within LGESMI.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of high voltage battery packs, modules and components for electric vehicles, from concept to production launch.
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate design concepts and propose optimal solutions.
Work as a part of global cross functional program teams to execute LGES product development processes; along with customer specific processes.
Establish and maintain customer communication throughout the development lifecycle for all aspects of the product engineering design and release.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams, including electrical, mechanical, thermal management, Battery Management System (BMS) and Systems Engineering teams to integrate battery packs into vehicle platforms.
Work closely with suppliers to select and qualify components, ensuring they meet technical specifications and performance requirements.
Lead the development of the DFMEA, BOM and all other engineering design critical documents along with maintain design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and release documentation, in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Develop and Release 3D and 2D data for components and support supplier sourcing.
Execute change management process for implementation changes with complete design engineering evaluations.
Develop the datum and locating scheme for pack/module components using GD&T and other engineering analysis tools. Conduct 1D stack-ups and assign tolerances.
Perform engineering design analysis to evaluate product performance, including CAE models and simulations.
Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot design issues during development and production phases.
Participate in design reviews and cross-functional meetings to communicate project status, identify risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
Support manufacturing and assembly processes by providing technical expertise and resolving engineering issues related to battery pack production.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to high voltage battery systems for electric vehicles.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in battery pack design and development for electric vehicles or related industries.
Strong knowledge of high voltage battery technologies, including lithium-ion chemistry, cell balancing, and battery management systems.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g.CATIA) for 3D modeling and design.
Experience with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for thermal and structural analysis of battery systems.
Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical information to cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and drive results.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality designs that meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Experience:
Experience leading product design engineering responsibilities through the complete development process (quote to mass production)
Experience with PLM systems.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in battery pack design and development for electric vehicles or related industries.
Experience with program development milestone reviews - for internal and external stakeholder approvals. .
