The Senior Engineer I is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. Will normally plan, conduct, and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects, by nature of their complexity and difficulty, require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.
As a Classification & Regulatory Compliance Engineer you will be actively engaged in the latest designs of cruise ships & yachts.
The primary function is to review drawings of cruise ships and yachts during and after construction for compliance with the applicable class and regulatory requirements.
What You Will Do:
Acts as a specialist for ABS in applying rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes to new and existing cruise ships and yachts.
Maintains an active awareness of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of cruise ships and yachts and recommends changes in the plan review processes as warranted by such developments.
Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and changes methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
Plans, schedules, coordinates, and executes various phases of engineering work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed.
Monitors work and projects performed by other engineers to ensure maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or other related discipline.
At least five (5) of experience in the marine industry with exposure to cruise ships and yachts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Detailed knowledge and experience about classification and regulatory requirements associated with:
Structural fire protection
Active fire protection
Lifesaving appliances
Means of escape
Detailed knowledge of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) requirements as a port state for cruise ships.
Preferably to have knowledge of evacuation modeling.
Location
It Would Be Nice If You Had
Professional or chartered engineer license.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent Generally reports to a Principal Engineer but may report to others depending on the specific of assignment. This position does not have any direct reports.
