HOW YOU WILL DO IT

Purpose Statement: To perform engineering design services and other related product development and/or product commercialization support services.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Develops engineering/product concepts that are high-quality, cost-appropriate, and satisfy the customer's requirements.

  • Utilizes appropriate tools and equipment to perform necessary design work including design creation, design analysis, and design verification.

  • Demonstrates a clear, discipline-specific understanding of the full product realization process (Conceptualize, Design, Commercialize, Manufacture, Fulfill, Sustain) as it applies to their role.

  • Successfully executes responsibilities in adherence to Plexus' engineering process.

  • Produces comprehensive project documentation based on the needs of the project and in accordance with the quality and change management procedures and guidelines.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Supports the Lean culture and effectively utilizes Lean Sigma concepts and tools to identify and eliminate waste while improving processes.

  • Possess and demonstrate the Plexus Values (Customer Focus, Relationships & Teamwork, Excellence, Open Communication, and Integrity).

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or higher is preferred.

  • Less than One (1) year of related experience is required; One (1) or more years of related experience is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.

Work Environment:

Job Description Job Description In the role of Product Development Engineer, drive and contribute to programs, providing solutions valued by customers and driving profitable growth in the business unit focused on packaging for Pet Food, Lawn and Garden, Dry Mix, Nutraceutical, Cereal, Liner, Nuts and Seeds. Work may include research, applications development, materials enhancements, process improvement and/or cost-out initiatives. Apply an understanding of customer needs and internal technology capabilities to recommend, design, develop and implement products and/or processes aligned to customer/market needs and business strategy. Develop custom packaging products (films, bags, pouches), altering manufacturing processes and/or chemical configurations as needed, to meet specific customer needs. Lead technical discussions and development around sustainability and packaging materials to be used for different applications in these markets: 1) Compostable films for markets, such as Confectionery, Nuts &amp; Seeds, and Snacks; and, 2) Store drop-off recyclable films for markets, such as Cereal and Pet food. Represent the company's technical voice with internal stakeholders and customers. Stay apprised of externally relevant technology changes and trends in chemical/materials engineering and packaging industry that may impact Amcor. Drive the "critical-to-quality" specifications. Be responsible for leading or supporting programs through stage gate. Plan, execute and analyze production trials with Design of Experiment, Lean Six Sigma, and statistical analysis methodology. Ensure proper documentation of work and contribute to knowledge library. Protect Amcor Intellectual Property while meeting stakeholder needs with proper information sharing. Job Requirements * The qualified candidate must have at least a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science or closely related field. * The qualified candidate must have at least 2 years (24 months) of research and development experience in packaging material manufacturing industry, including 2 years (24 months) of experience with all of the following: 1) applying foundational understandings of material/polymer properties and equipment capability in order to deliver best solutions; 2) applying tools within Project Management, Design of Experiment, Statistical Analysis; 3) assisting process development, operations and technical groups in developing and implementing process improvements; 4) providing guidance on technical requirements for packaging materials based on customer requirements; 5) troubleshooting production quality issues and transferring knowledge across the organization to make a larger impact; 6) completing and reviewing Stage Gate documents for development projects with cross-functional teams at each stage; 7) qualifying new materials to deliver cost savings. * Position requires domestic travel up to 25% as needed and customary for the occupation. * All experience may be gained concurrently.
