Idaho Power - located in vibrant Boise, Idaho - is looking for a temporary Engineer I or II - Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Power Production Engineering and Construction team.

This position is based at Idaho Power's downtown Boise location.
What does an Engineer I or II - Mechanical Project Engineer do for us?
This Engineer will be responsible for engineering and project management for the Power Production Project Management team. The primary focus of this position is executing betterment projects that support the turbine and generator refurbishment program at Idaho Power's hydroelectric plants. This person will work within a team environment, under limited supervision. Responsibilities include:
Management of large, multi-year, capital projects including budget management and scheduling
Engineering and design support for projects managed
Construction management at our hydroelectric facilities
Executing and managing contracts with multiple suppliers including change orders, shipping arrangements, and payments
Evaluation and testing for equipment condition and performance
Develop cost and power estimates for new/proposed projects
Use engineering knowledge to develop component refurbishment and new equipment technical specifications
Manage resources, both internal and contracted, including: Engineers, Drafters, Electricians, and Mechanics
Provide support for FERC licensing activities
Position will include extended field projects at power plants in our service territory
Engineer I
Operating under general supervision and with oversight, an Engineer I is developing technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.
Engineer II
Operating under limited supervision, an Engineer II has an intermediate level of technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads moderately complex assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives high-level guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.
A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Previous experience in design, maintenance, or plant engineering of hydroelectric power plants

Project and/or construction management experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position has both office and field requirements. This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. It also requires walking on even/uneven surfaces and ascents/descents, up to 5 miles daily, while carrying 14-26 lbs. of equipment. Lifting of up to 36 lbs. and carrying up to 30 lbs., (up to 50 feet), is performed occasionally. Climbing of ladders/racks and work within elevated lifts (up to 40 feet high) with competency in use of safety equipment is required. Squatting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lying at ground level is performed to work within confined spaces of power plants/dams/generators, for extended intervals up to a full shift. Driving is required to perform work throughout the IPC territory, (3-7 hours). The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Drive to various generation facilities as needed, with some overnight stays, occasionally multiple nights in a row. This position is based in Corporate Headquarters office in Boise with frequent travel to our generation facilities.
Occasionally work in proximity to hazardous areas, and therefore must have thorough familiarity and strict conformance with all state and federal safety rules as well as Idaho Power's safety procedures.
Must have adequate mobility to frequently climb multiple flights of stairs as well as the agility to crawl into and around complex machinery to access construction and maintenance sites and confined spaces.
