Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
This position is in the system planning and services department and reports to the Director, system planning and services. Responsibilities include determining options to serve new large loads, supporting the transmission planning process to meet Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations and North American Energy Regulatory Corporation (NERC) standards, assisting in the review of studies prepared by the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator (MISO), performing generation interconnection studies, administering distributed generation interconnections, performing distribution system studies, providing planning support for electric system construction and operation, completing economic evaluations of capital investments, assisting with reliability analyses and making recommendations on appropriate facilities to address system issues. Perform transmission and distribution power flow analysis, assists with the preparation of stability analyses, production modeling analyses, and other system assessments as required.
Provide engineering services for the planning and budgeting of facility additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's electric energy delivery system. (45%)
Provide engineering project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, planning, planning estimates, planning specifications, engineering reports, consulting engineering contracts, and engineering presentations. (20%)
Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (20%)
Provide engineering-based planning assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%)
Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (5%)
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
The engineer I position requires a degree in engineering from an accredited college/university. Internship preferred.
The engineer II position requires a degree in engineering from an accredited college/university and 1-3 years of experience.
The senior engineer position requires a degree in engineering from an accredited college/university and 5 years of industry experience. A PE license is preferred.
The senior engineer II position requires a degree in engineering from an accredited college/university and eight years of industry experience. Requires PE. If no PE license, must have 10 years as practicing engineer.
The principal engineer position requires an engineering degree from an accredited college/university and 12 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of specialized nature. Requires PE. If no PE license, must have 15 years as a practicing engineer.
