The Engineer I position is responsible for performing engineeringactivities under the supervision of the Engineering Manager. This includestechnical and engineering support of field work, and office work performingdesign and generating reports. TheEngineer I will be assigned to experienced engineers for extensive on-the-jobtraining with the intent to develop the necessary skills to become an industryleading power engineer and the ability to lead projects both in the office andin the field.


  • Develop the skills to provide technical capabilities for testingrelays, circuit breakers, transformers, motor control equipment, and related switchgearin the field, including synch check, point-to-point

  • In conjunction with the oversight of senior engineers, developskills to support the sales effort assisting with estimates and job walks whennecessary.

  • Remain current on all safety and technical training.

  • Perform updates to client electrical drawings including one lines,wiring diagrams, and schematics to the extent that familiarity with AutoCADis desirable.

  • Collect field data and perform arc flash studies, coordinationstudies and short circuit analysis (load flow analysis, grounding &lightning protection studies, infrared scans, etc.)

  • Develop the skills to provide technical insight regardingsubstation systems and electrical power systems.

  • Adhere to all company, industry and client safety protocols andstandards.

  • Support immediate supervisor on planning and organizing workloadto ensure the most effective return on assets.

  • Coordinate with the Engineering Project Manager on the masterengineering resource schedule as well as forecasting upcoming engineeringrequirements/needs including non-job-related training schedules.

  • Participate in Project Kickoff meetings to discuss in detail workscope, project specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements withproject team.

  • Effectively communicate with other departments to assure activitiesare properly coordinated.


Technical Proficiency: Familiar withone-line and three-line drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams for powerdistribution equipment.

Able to create a one-line diagram for small to mediumsized distribution systems. Have a basic understanding of the operation ofcommon power systems apparatus including motors, generators, transformers,circuit breakers, and switchgear. Able to perform short circuit, protectivedevice coordination, and arc flash studies on small to medium sized low andmedium voltage distribution systems. Have a basic understanding of testing ofelectrical power systems apparatus.

The position is considered to have light physical demands thatrequire the incumbent to communicate orally, hear at a conversational level andperform job tasks requiring the use of a telephone, fax, and computer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will berequired to perform keying functions, grasp and pinch to write. The employee will frequently (34-66% of theworkday) be required to sit, walk and stand.

Occasionally (6-33% of the workday), the employee will be required tobend, twist/turn, reach out, lift/carry and push and pull. The employee infrequently (2-5% of theworkday) will be required to squat/kneel and climb. The employee is required to infrequently(2-5% of the workday) lift and carry up to 21-50 pounds and will frequently(34-66% of the workday) be required to lift and carry 11 to 20 pounds.


Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly subject to variousjob site environments. The flooring ismostly concrete, tile or wood.

Thetemperatures at the customer locations can vary between 20-100 degrees. The use of safety equipment can includesafety shoes and glasses, hard hat and other job specific personal protectiveequipment. The noise level of the workenvironment can vary from low to high (requiring hearing protection). Travel requirements will make it necessary todrive a car (day and/or night) and at times travel by air. This position can require up to 80% travel particularly where the element of the on-site training is involved.


  • Experience: 1.5 - 2 years design engineeringor power systems analysis on electrical power distribution systems.

  • ReasoningDevelopment: Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oralform; deal with problems involving several concrete variables.

  • MathematicalDevelopment:Ability to add, subtract, and divide all units of measure. Able to perform computations involving power.

  • LanguageDevelopment: Ability to read company manuals and reports, workplace rules andprocedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English.

  • Education: FE recommended.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation as an electrical engineer with experience modifying aircraft for special mission applications. The individual will support technology and business development activities, proposals (including schedules and cost estimates), design reviews, component and system level test, and certification. The individual must have the technical skills for designing and coordinating the integration of avionics upgrades and payloads aboard aircraft solutions to include SIGINT payloads, radars, electro-optical systems, communications systems and survivability equipment. Technical activities include supporting programs, providing engineering support during design, manufacturing, integration, and test in the area of aircraft modification and integration. A strong background in electrical engineering, including preparing electrical engineering reports, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, electrical load analysis, ground/flight test reports and other technical reports required to obtain FAA Field and STC approvals is needed. Basic Qualifications: * Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance or higher * B.S. degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering plus a minimum of five (5) years aircraft integration or related engineering experience * Ability to generate electrical drawings and design diagrams using AutoCAD or similar software * Experience integrating surveillance and communication technologies and other systems onto aircraft * Familiarity with EMI/EMC prevention, wire shielding and wire protection/sizing * Knowledge of aircraft electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation * Past experience in developing electrical modification and installation work instructions, procedures and recommendations * Ability to demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills and work well in a team environment * Ability to travel infrequently for business, CONUS Preferred Qualifications: * Former domain experience with military operations, military intelligence, ISR aircraft, UAS and/or US Special Forces * Knowledge and understanding of FAA 14 CFR Part 23 & Part 25 aircraft certifications requirements and the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) process is highly preferred * Multidisciplinary experience to include avionics and systems engineering * Existing Secret Clearance or higher with work experience on restricted programs is highly preferred * Ability/interest to occasionally travel to forward deployed, high risk areas like Afghanistan for short term test and system fielding projects (1-4 weeks) Northrop Grumman Middle River MD
