The Engineer's Helper, under the direction of the Engineer, performs various semi-skilled tasks to assist in the installation, maintenance and repair work on plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment in compliance with all company policies and procedures and all applicable Human Rights statutes, the Fire Department of New York and the New York City Building Department Codes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Engineer's Helper, under the direction of the Engineer, is responsible for the following:
Assists in the completion of job assignments. Other related duties and special projects, as required.
The Engineer's Helper is responsible, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
Performs general labor and manual tasks as related to mechanical, construction or maintenance work. Cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipes and tubing. Neatly and professionally removes walls, baseboards, doors, windows, screens, plaster, bricks and blocks to facilitate repair and/or renovation. Maintains an adequate supply of tools and materials for task at hand. Loads and unloads materials and transports to designated areas. Collects trash and other debris. Cleans up work areas. Conducts periodic inspections of designated building facilities and equipment. Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on general building facilities and electrical, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration and communication systems. Responds promptly to fire alarm systems. Disengages electrical, water and/or gas systems. Advises management of general condition of facilities and equipment. Reports unusual problems or concerns. Maintains the appropriate documentation of maintenance and repair records.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in the repair and maintenance of general building structures. High School diploma or equivalent a plus Ability to perform work involving physical strength and endurance. Ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions. Skilled in the use of common hand tools and equipment.

1+ year of related experience in a commercial property setting preferred
Working knowledge of BMS systems
Reliable transportation for on-call emergencies

Must be able to:
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Climb ladders and crawl into confined spaces
Endure walking, squatting, bending, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crawling and prolonged standing
