Oxy is looking for a Facilities Engineer. In this position, the person will be responsible for facility related activities and will provide engineering expertise in support of reservoir development and ongoing operations with focus on value optimization. Primary job duties involve designing, maintaining, and optimizing upstream onshore surface facilities and production operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Managing surface infrastructure projects from conception through implementation, including pipelines, compressor stations, pumping stations, and oil/water/gas separation, conditioning and processing facilities.

  • Analyzing, troubleshooting, and refurbishing existing surface infrastructure elements for optimum utilization.

  • Project planning and management for safe execution of projects with predictable cost, schedule and performance.

  • Work with subsurface/wells teams to design and install new facilities needed to address changing production rates.

  • Working with operations/construction field personnel to troubleshoot operating issues, develop/implement solutions in order to optimize field activities and ensure mechanicals integrity of equipment is maintained.


  • Working knowledge of the following in context of upstream oil and gas operations:

  • OSHA Process Safety Management elements and typical safety program requirements

  • Industry codes and standards (ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, ASME Section 8, Div. 1 Pressure Vessel Code, etc.)

  • Typical rotating and stationary equipment

  • Typical materials of construction e. Process control elements and systems

  • Proficiency in hydraulic analysis, equipment sizing/design, and system design.

  • Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and in the time required.

  • Proficiency in or ability to learn applicable technical and economic analysis software.

  • Good problem solving and time management skills.

  • Capable of handling multiple jobs simultaneously and planning projects independently

  • Is willing to coach and mentor others

  • Commitment to safety, including safety considerations in engineering design, recommendations, and operability.

  • Ability to work within multidiscipline team environment.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences within the business.

  • Project management (intermediate level).

  • Capable of managing changing priorities.

  • Is comfortable when dealing with ambiguity .

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite software.


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree program.

  • Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in design of onshore oil and gas production and/or gas conditioning and processing facilities.

  • Experience in use of formal project management processes/systems

  • Ability to represent the company's interests with vendors and contract technical staff.

  • Working knowledge of typical onshore oil and gas construction practices.

  • Working knowledge of onshore oil and gas operations and maintenance functions.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of reliability engineering principles and life cycle cost analysis.

  • Working knowledge of corrosion engineering principles.

  • Formal training and work experience in project management.

  • Working knowledge of procurement systems and contracting.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Facilities Engineer within our Permian Resources group based in Houston, TX. The Field Development (FDP) Facilities Engineer (FE) role is responsible for creating long-term field development plans for a specified asset within the Permian Resources New Mexico portfolio. The FDP Engineer will work with the FDP Reservoir Engineers to understand the resource potential in the ground and interpret the infrastructure requirements on surface to bring those hydrocarbons to market to maximize value over the life of the field. The FDP FE will interface with the Asset Facilities Engineering, Operations, Midstream, Utility, and Regulatory teams to understand current capacities, constraints and requirements to optimize future infrastructure designs. The FDP FE will work on a multi-disciplinary team with Reservoir and Production Engineers to generate cost estimates, permits, and engineering designs necessary to execute the field development plan. The Field Development Reservoir Engineer will be responsible for framing multiple development scenarios and associated economics, reserves, and potential risk in production and cash flow, and formulate alternate contingency plans to respond to actual well performance. The Field Development Reservoir Engineer will report to the Development Manager. * Initiate coordination and preliminary scoping of (Facilities) projects with interdisciplinary team (including but not limited to automation and electrical, regulatory, operations, subsurface engineering, etc) * Initiation of long lead material requisitions and permit requests, such as Application for Permit to Drill (APD) Facilities Package, various air permits, ROWs, and others * Development of an infrastructure plan to include fluid sourcing and sales contracts, system capacity information, project cost and timing, and optionality for plan changes * Generate Block Flow and Facility Layout diagrams for overall infrastructure * Understand project management and execution process to facilitate and lead continuous project handover process to the construction teams * Work closely with Asset Facilities Engineering and Operations teams to understand existing capacities and bottlenecks for baseline assessments and future upgrades * Understand the life cycle of field infrastructure and maximize value * Sound understanding of the differences between well economics, project economics vs field economics Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering. Professional/Technical Knowledge: A strong working knowledge of field development planning and business acumen. Experience: A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in facilities engineering preferred.
