Oxy is looking for a Facilities Engineer. In this position, the person will be responsible for facility related activities and will provide engineering expertise in support of reservoir development and ongoing operations with focus on value optimization. Primary job duties involve designing, maintaining, and optimizing upstream onshore surface facilities and production operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Managing surface infrastructure projects from conception through implementation, including pipelines, compressor stations, pumping stations, and oil/water/gas separation, conditioning and processing facilities.

  • Analyzing, troubleshooting, and refurbishing existing surface infrastructure elements for optimum utilization.

  • Project planning and management for safe execution of projects with predictable cost, schedule and performance.

  • Work with subsurface/wells teams to design and install new facilities needed to address changing production rates.

  • Working with operations/construction field personnel to troubleshoot operating issues, develop/implement solutions in order to optimize field activities and ensure mechanicals integrity of equipment is maintained.


  • Working knowledge of the following in context of upstream oil and gas operations:

  • OSHA Process Safety Management elements and typical safety program requirements

  • Industry codes and standards (ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, ASME Section 8, Div. 1 Pressure Vessel Code, etc.)

  • Typical rotating and stationary equipment

  • Typical materials of construction e. Process control elements and systems

  • Proficiency in hydraulic analysis, equipment sizing/design, and system design.

  • Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and in the time required.

  • Proficiency in or ability to learn applicable technical and economic analysis software.

  • Good problem solving and time management skills.

  • Capable of handling multiple jobs simultaneously and planning projects independently

  • Is willing to coach and mentor others

  • Commitment to safety, including safety considerations in engineering design, recommendations, and operability.

  • Ability to work within multidiscipline team environment.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences within the business.

  • Project management (intermediate level).

  • Capable of managing changing priorities.

  • Is comfortable when dealing with ambiguity .

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite software.


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree program.

  • Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in design of onshore oil and gas production and/or gas conditioning and processing facilities.

  • Experience in use of formal project management processes/systems

  • Ability to represent the company's interests with vendors and contract technical staff.

  • Working knowledge of typical onshore oil and gas construction practices.

  • Working knowledge of onshore oil and gas operations and maintenance functions.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of reliability engineering principles and life cycle cost analysis.

  • Working knowledge of corrosion engineering principles.

  • Formal training and work experience in project management.

  • Working knowledge of procurement systems and contracting.

Provides conceptual ideas and cost estimates for strategic portfolio decisions. Continuously works on improving cost and cycle time efficiency through technical research and offset data analysis. Requires limited technical supervision on a daily basis and utilizes available resources on a frequent basis. Responsibilities: * Company expert in the application of codes, regulations and engineering tools. * Prepares, review and verify design criteria, root cause analysis and problem definition, project scope, equipment sizing, engineering calculations and plans. * Prepare Cost estimates for both new production facilities, and retrofit construction projects. Assist in AFE preparation. * Communicate with vendors and procurement groups to ensure that equipment needs are sourced, and meet design standards. * Performs engineering analysis and review of gas and natural gas liquid composition to assure the performance and reliability of gas and liquid processes, designs and facilities, and operations. * Apply technical and economic decision matrix incorporating operational cost and investment estimations as well as technical, operational and maintenance factors and risk analysis to evaluate improvement options. * Lead facility risk assessments with Engineering, Field Operations and Construction groups to identify and minimize risks as well as prevent operational issues. * Serve as Primary engineering contact to construction group for facility projects, planning and execution. * Perform pipeline hydraulic calculations for single phase and multi phase flow regimes to identify bottle necks and assist with production optimization projects. * Understands DOT pipeline regulations and able to apply regulations to new and existing pipelines. * Serve as engineering technical expert to the Environmental Compliance and Safety teams to ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies. * Perform Process flow simulations to calculate emissions from production equipment for Air permitting purposes. * Ensure that oil and gas production and storage facility designs are compliant with all regulatory requirements. * Prepare standards for gas and liquid systems. Recommend and execute improvements to optimize existing gas and liquid facilities considering historical performance, simulation results, long range plans, case studies and new technology. * Define technical strategies to develop gas and liquid processes and facilities in the medium and long- term and establishes reasons to improve these strategies. * Identify and anticipate deviations from current trends and future needs by performing analyses of historical data and considering production planning. * Design, size & specify gas production equipment, safety systems, separation equipment, tank storage, vapor recovery, incineration, gas conditioning, electrical, instrumentation & automation, RTU, custody transfer M&R. Prepare test procedures. Use process modeling tools. * Provide CAD drawings to construction group with design PNID, and specifications. * Use project management tools to plan and control scope, schedule and cost of assigned projects. * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
