The Core Application Platforms (CAP) department is part of Comcast Cable's Technology & Product (T&P) organization and serves the larger company with technologies that are broadly used for faster delivery of reliable, performant, and scalable software products. CAP provides application building blocks that are relevantbut not specificto the types of products delivered to Comcast's customers. Our software helps run products that serve tens of millions of customers.

As a DevOps Engineer (IV)you will be a technical contributor on the team, having an input on how our products are tested & implemented. You will work closely with feature developers and operations staff to deliver high-quality software into production. Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, grow and improve the T&P Splunk environment

  • Support large-scale deployments across multiple datacenters

  • Monitor & track Splunk performance problems & administration

  • Develop reliable, efficient queries that will feed custom:

  • Alerts

  • Dashboards

  • Reports

  • Data Models

  • Populate Splunk from 3rd party data sources (i.e. bash/python scripts/SQL DB/APIs)

  • Report status through JIRA tickets and track work effectively

  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks across projects

  • Collaborating with our technical operations teams to provide outstanding customer service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, including extensive system administration experience

  • UNIX/Linux background: facility with command-line utilities; familiarity with system administration tools and concepts, in-depth knowledge, tuning to work with Splunk and DBs

  • Extensive experience with Ansible and other devops applications

  • Firm grasp of networking concepts/protocols (word this better, ask Kris), ability to test network changes

  • Experience with Zabbix, Bamboo, Git, large-scale deployment, OS management, patching, application deployment, network adiminstration

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field

  • Experience working in an agile development environment

  • Experience with container methodologies & orchestration

  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and defining and managing task priorities

  • Experience administering a large (> 1 TB) Splunk installation

  • Familiarity with distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, and network protocols

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
